Are you dying in prison and want "compassionate release"? Scotland is your ticket!

Posted 08-21-2009 at 11:06 PM by David
Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the man convicted of the deadliest terrorist attack in British history, was freed earlier today.. Why? Because he is dying of cancer and only has 3 months to live, according to him.

Cry me a river... and excuse my lack of sympathy..

This guy was a PART of a terrorist plot which killed hundreds of innocent people. Unlike the thousands of prison inmates here in the United States with terminal conditions who are most likely serving death sentences, never to see the free-world light of day again, HE gets to go spend the last months of his life with family and friends..

President Obama commented upon his release that this terrorist should be kept on "house arrest".. Something I'm sure everyone over there is laughing about, including "Colonel" al-Gaddafi, the true person (prick) behind this (and other) terrorist acts.
Yup, Gaddafi, the same dictator who practically wet his pants after the US invaded Iraq, and quickly gave up one of the people involved [al-Megrahi] because he was afraid Libya was next on Bush's hit list, gave this guy up, and his family millions..

What President Obama should be doing, instead of giving these terrorists lip service, is paying attention to the people in OUR (U.S.) prisons, especially those who are serving time for non-violent crimes.. And those who pose little, and those who pose little risk to commit crimes again.. AND ESPECIALLY those who are dying from terminal illness!

I've seen this first hand.. I personally know prisoners who pose no threat to society and who are dying due to lack of medical care. Some slow.. Some imminent..

The true definition of hard time, IMO, is being stuck in a prison with a serious medical or mental condition.. The only medical care in our prisons is the type those of us on the outside have nightmares about.

Envision for a second the Emergency Room or clinic that you have heard horror stories about.. The one even indigents would shy away from unless it was a last resort.. Well, those are the places some inmates dream about..

i am sorry but i commend them for releasing him ,i know what he did was awful but we as children of God are called to forgive and if we do not forgive even him we are held accountable for that ,i have found that when faced by certain death our political views have little meaning,i am sure his are the farthest thing from his mind ,just my humble opinion

uhmm... that's not the reports I'm hearing about Pres. Obama he had no final say on this mans release. Nor from the words that came out of his mouth does he agree with it.

I did not say Obama agrees with it or has any final say on the matter. What was not done, and what I disagree with is that very little pressure was brought to bear on the Scotts to change their minds.. Nor was there any attempt to bring him to the U.S. where there is still an outstanding warrant for this guy.

At the heart of what I was trying to say is that I wish Obama would pay attention to our people stuck in prison who are dying.. Who are not terrorists, and especially those who pose no danger to society.

What exactly is the point of a legal process if someone can come in and over ride it by virtue of their acquired authority?
The conviction and future convictions are bogus and cannot be accepted by society with confidence. The cancer he has developed, or the dsease any inmate can develop is not a stipulation or a condition of anything! In society we don't hand out bonuses to employees when they come down with a disease, do we? Society struggles with it's insurers over existing health issues and the propensity of so they don't end up paying you on the way to dying faster than the rest.
Forgiving another human being in my heart is one thing, but it is that human being who earned himself the seat in the prison. The law did not put him there, it only processed his trip. What's more is that society has expressed it's outrage and I'll tell you what I know aout terrorists- they are who they are and have no history of changing their minds. So, tell me- does the cancer just cancel out his terrorist capabilities? What exactly are we admitting to as we relate his cancer to his release- he's become----- someone else? He is a terrorist first and now he's a terrorist with cancer.
Look, we have heard reports of many an ailing terrorist- Bin Laden to be exact. Are we now going to post an alert offering less punishment for him or his cohorts due to the proposed future out come of his ailments?
