Visiting a LO in Jail versus Visting Professionally

I am a prosecuting attorney and have only been to jails to speak with inmates regarding pleas, etc. However, this will be my first time visiting a jail (Marana) for a personal visit with a loved one. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do for four hours?

I can't speak to Arizona jails (are they contact visits?), but I can tell you that, in general, the time goes much more quickly than you think it will. In the beginning I recall feeling like our six hour visit would drag on forever if I didn't have a bunch of stuff to fill the time, but honestly...it's not like that.

Hopefully someone can come along and tell you what sorts of things are available at the specific facility you're visiting.

Yes, they are contact visits. I have never been to this particular prison as it is out of my jurisdiction. But I'm wondering if I should bring a game or
something...

Again I can't speak to AZ, but we aren't allowed to bring anything in. The visiting rooms have games available. Some rooms have a TV with a movie or the news on and we watch that together.

But even without those things...the time just talking, buying from the vending machine, learning the rules and where things are. Four hours can go in a flash.

You can't bring anything in just quarters for vending but yes they will have some games like cards and dominoes and such but I agree time flies so much quicker then you'd ever think. I remember thinking for my first 8 hr visit I'd get bored or he would and instead we wanted more time! Just bring the full 40 in quarters bc things r crazy expensive drinks and food wise and your loved one will want to eat and drink as much as they can bc the food and drinks are better usually so they like to fill up it's a nice treat. And the eating fills the time and they enjoy it and you will making them happy for that time

Many prisons you are allowed to bring in an unopened deck of cards or puzzle box. Call the unit and find out. Take the full $40 in quarters, you will need them.

I have taken decks of cards and several board games. They provide me with a form to sign to "donate" them to the prison. You leave them there. Count on them being gone/missing pieces by your next visit.

Generally, by the time you get into the prison and process for visitation, you won't have the full 4 hours left. Together with feeding from vending machines and conversation, the 1/2 day visit will go quickly.

Bring an open heart and time will zoom by. Have fun.
