GTL Phone Call Suddenly Ended

I was just on the phone with my boyfriend and out of nowhere, I heard the GTL automated voice say “Goodbye” and the call ended. We were having a regular morning conversation. He hasn’t called back. We never end phone calls without telling each other, “I love you.”

There is money on my account so I don’t understand what happened. And since he hasn’t called back, now I’m worried. Has this happened to anyone else in the past?

There could be a few different reasons for the disconnect. Off the top of my head: inmate fight, lockdown, phone malfunction, use of call-forwarding service, using 3-way, loud TV or music in background.....be patient, he'll call back when he can :)

Thank you for your response. I did not/ never have used a call-forwarding service, 3-way phone call and I didn't have the tv or music on.

I called the CRC Norco Public Information office after this happened and they told me that they did not hear and/or know of any fights/ lockdown going on at the moment at that prison.

I then called GTL and they said that my account was fine and "reset" my account to ensure that the calls should be okay.

It really worries me he hasn't called back. He always does, even if it's just to say goodbye (if our 15 min call had needed mid conversation) and I love you.

This entire prison experience is the first time for the both of us. We don't know what's normal/ not normal. I miss and love him so much and hearing from him throughout the day helps me feel at ease that he's ok.

Oh, hun. I want to give you a cocktail and welcome you to the First Time Wives Club. Between your visiting app and this dropped call I feel you climbing up on the ledge. Everything is OK...try to take a deep breath. :hugme:

Dropped calls happen all of the time. Like Patch said, it could be anything. Sometimes it's as petty as the CO on the tower doesn't recognize your LO and cuts the call to make them get off the phone. Sometimes the weather (no, I'm not kidding) will make them pull calls.

I'm going to give you a piece of advice that is going to take a while to feel safe-- when something like this happens, let it go. For at least 24 hours just put it on the backburner. Let it play out. Don't call the prison, don't call the phone company, just let it be. Being 'in the dark' happens a lot with prison. It may be helpful to remember that as much as it's outside of your control, it's also outside of his. It's best to learn what you'll need as a coping skill now so that it's not so hard on you in the future. I could tell you stories about what we've been through that would make the skin of your teeth hurt, but the thing that will save you is having a go-to coping mechanism.
For now, try to hear that it's normal and it may even be a few days before he calls back. Normal, normal, normal. Write him, watch your favorite show, take a bath, have a reasonable glass of wine. He will call again. Promise.

This definitely happened when Dee was locked up, and it can be for many different reasons. The 3 way call thing had a specific "3 way call violation" alert. "Good bye" could be as simple as the guards decided to shut the phones down, possibly due to a lockdown. I am 99.99% sure that he did not end the call on purpose and that the reason he hasn't called you back is because he's not able to right now. He'll call when he's able. He might be able to explain what happened. He might not know why it happened. Rest assured, though, you didn't do anything wrong and he most likely did not, either.

BTW, the PIO might not always know of a specific incident in the prison, especially if there something minor going on.
