Is he released? ”No records found matching that criteria”

I donít know if this is the right place to post this question but since my friend is in California I figured it would be suitable.
A few letters ago my friend wrote me he could be released just about anytime but he hadnít got an exact date yet.
The reason why he didnít knew the date was because he had an ongoing appeal and he wasnít given any information whether he won it or not, they didnít tell him anything.
However, there were signs he might would get an earlier release because of the youth offender law.
Anyway, I checked the California inmate locator a few days ago to see if there were any updates and to my surprise his gone from there, it says ĒNo records found matching that criteriaĒ.
Does this mean his released?

It could mean he's released. Or it could also mean he was sent to a county jail if he had other issues pending.

Being released doesn't sneak up on someone who has to go through the YOPH process and that's separate from any appeal he may have had pending.

Most folks approved under YOPH have prepared a parole packet, had a hearing, learned the results of that hearing the same day and then have 2-3 months before actually being released. In that time, their parole plan is solidified (housing, county supervision, restitution plans, ect). So if he was granted parole under YOPH, he would know.

As for the appeal, that also seems kind of sketch. There are timelines that have to be followed by the courts regarding a decision. If the paperwork never caught up to him, then perhaps there could be some missing information. However, I would find that surprising as a change in release date would be updated in his C-file and his counselor would have to prepare the paperwork for his release.

If his CDC# brings up no info on the locator, he's not in custody. As Sidewalker said, he could have been picked up on a warrant or maybe he just ghosted. It happens. Hope you learn something soon.
