When it comes to drug addiction , It's hard for an addict to give up due to the withdrawal symptoms so it's not like they can go cold turkey. The first week of withdrawal is typically the hardest and the worst, but some symptoms can and do last longer, typically lasting up to one month, and depending on how advanced the addiction is, then the withdrawal symptoms can linger for several months more. Other symptoms that last longer than the initial week include tiredness, depression, anxiety, and trouble sleeping. Then you have other problems in prison like peer pressure, boredom and time on ones hands. So most often than not all these issues contribute to the inmate using.
