Smile South Carolina Member Introductions

Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you here. If you have already introduced yourself in the PTO Welcome Forum, post here too or include a link to your previous post.

If you have questions to ask SC Forum members, choose a corresponding topic (such as prison mail, phones, lockdowns, parole, etc...) in the South Carolina forum to post your question.

This thread is for introductions only. If we keep discussions under the appropriate subject headings, everyone can find the information.

I’m Kahlan, the SC Forum Leader. My best friend/fiancé/common-law husband is now in FCIYazooCity after a 3 year stay in various county jails and state prisons. PTO has been a life saver for me. The support, caring and information that I’ve found here have gotten me through the worst of times. I found this site through an Internet search and have been a member since July 2003. I enjoy being able to help members who are just starting this process and are not sure where to turn or how to handle the emotional aspects of being away from a loved one. And for me, being able to find quick information and talking with people who understand and are nonjudgmental has been invaluable. Thanks Fed-X for creating this wonderful community!

I found this site on an internet search. It has been a help in my keeping my sanity. I wish we had more traffic in this section as I love hearing from others in my same situation (being from the same area). I only recently joined but have found so much comfort and friendship from you guys. My son is at McCormick right now and has about 11 more years. He has been in SCDC since 1998 which was the day after his 17th birthday.

My name is Shawna and I'm from Ohio. My very good friend since High School has been incarcerated with the SCDC for 8yrs now. This is a wonderful site and I've been a member for 9 mos. now. The solidarity I've found here is unbelievable. I've meet a lot of good people here and hope to be aquainted with more.

Hey! I am from Lexington but my boyfriend was just recently sent to Laurens County. I am new to all of this so it is good (in a bad way) to find others in my area experiencing the same heartbreak. Would like to network if you are interested! Dean'sgirl

Hi there, My husband grew up in Laurens county and it's a pretty pleasant area, very small town. My husband is in Dorchester Co. which is near Charleston or closer yet Summerville. Don't know when he's getting out or if he's getting out.. this waiting is so painful and lonely isn't it?

Well, an internet search brought me here, and not a minute to soon!

I have a loved one in Evans CI and honestly don't know what I would do without this site! I have found answers to many questions and unbelievable support!

I get frustrated, mad, lonely, sad, but no matter what emotion I'm experiencing, PTO is ALWAYS here for me!

Hi, I am in upstate SC. I have a sibling in Kirkland. I found this site while surfing for information to help me understand what it really means to be in prison. I try to take his 17 yr old son, his 15 yr old daughter and his grandson to visit once a month or so. We went this Sunday and they wouldn't let his kids in to see him, because their ID's weren't changed in the system . I have found some really great stuff on this site and it shows me that we all are struggling to care for and protect our loved ones. Thanks.. all

Hi everyone, I'm in upstate SC, I found this site after searching the web. I have someone very very dear to my heart in Kirkland right now. Not in R&E but assigned to Kirkland. He has been in for 7 years and his max out is 8/05, although he wll not be free then. He has to go to a deportation hearing . I also have a very good friend in Evans. This site is very informative and has answered a lot of questions for me. Nice to be around so many people that don't think that just because you are an inmate you are a bad person. I hope and pray every day that he stays well and will come home to me soon.

Thank you so very much. My friend at Evan is doing ok and dealing with the awful conditions there. My beloved, at Kirkland, says it's nowhere near as bad as R&E. He trys to help out the new intakes, even though he can get into trouble for it. When they first come into R&E they only give them a few things which doesn't include envelopes anymore. He will give some of the new intakes envelopes to write home, because when he first went into R&E I didn't hear from him for 3 weeks and it almost killed me. He doesn't want other families to worry like I did.

Thanks for the welcome

Welcome Esmeralda! I'm glad you found our site. Your guy sounds like a great guy. No envelopes at Kirkland anymore! That is too cruel. The mail keeps me going. I was waiting by the window Saturday hoping the mailman would get through the ice. He did and I had 2 letters! This is a great site. Thanks for joining us!

I don't know how long they have been giving out packetts without envelopes but yes it's very cruel. My guy had to trade his watch to get more envelopes when he ran out. They held him over in R&E for 62 days!!!! Now that was cruel . I fianlly got to visit him last Friday and it was the first time in months. Our mailman couldn't make it thru the ice, so no letter Saturday .

My son is at Mcdougall he has been incarcerated for over 2 yrs now and it was one of the hardest things I have ever faced but PTO has been the greatest support for me since I found it. Hi Everyone... I found this site during a search for support groups for families of inmates. My name is Diana, I live in Warren, Michigan and am engaged to a wonderful guy who is an inmate at Kershaw Correctional Facility in S.C. I have run into obstacle after obstacle from his mail to his caseworker, also I got info on how to calculate his work credits, but am still stuck. So if someone could help me I would sure appreciate it!
Hugs to all

Michael My Angel, come home soon

Hi......... I'm Donna / Doni and I'm in WI. My love will be sentenced today, in about 9 hours on a federal crime. So I usually 'hang out' there. That's how I got HERE.... a search engine brought me..... I don't remember which one.

I write to other men through a prison ministry. One is in Tx....the other is doing time in Leiber.

I have a few questions that I will post..... and hopefully can share some info too.

I'll see all on the boards!

Blessings,

Doni

Exclamation I Feel So Lost And Alone!

Hello, my name is Sherri! I found this site thru "Google" a couple of months back! I have found this site to be very informative, but now I'm hoping it will provide me a life line, as my situation has worsened!

My Joshua was incarcerated in Sept. 2005! Since that time I have prided myself in being so strong! That was until two weeks ago! See Joshua was located at Perry Correctional in Pelzer, SC, which is only 35 minutes from where I live! Knowing he was so close has always provided me with comfort! But all that changed when he was suddenly transferred, without warning, to Evans Correctional in Bennettsville, SC!

On a random Wednesday night, two weeks ago, I received a frantic call from Josh, stating he had just found out he was being moved! And not just moved, but moved 3.5 hours away from me, away from home! And in less than 12 hours it was done! Nothing has been the same since!

Although I wouldn't normally see Josh during the week anyway, call me crazy, but my heart and soul feels the distance between us! All of a sudden I feel completely hopeless and weak! I have an overwhelming since of lonliness!

I have always taken great pride in being strong for Josh! But with this change, has come the realization that I cannot do this alone anymore! I need the support of people who truely understand what I am going thru!

I have made the journey to see Josh three times so far, which takes 7 hours roundtrip, and a major toll on my body as well! As hard as it is I will not let the miles stop me! I made a promise to Josh once that I intend on keeping! I told him that I would follow him to the ends of the earth, and that I would always, always be there for him, no matter what!

In order for me to be able to live up to that promise, I've come to realize and accept I may need some help to get thru! I'm praying that thru your support and encouragement, that I will find the strength to top this mountain and discover brighter days!

I hope that one day I can use my expierience to help others who find themselves in this overwhelming place of confusion and lonliness! In the meantime I pray you will give me the support and tools I need to build a brighter future for Josh and I! I am truely grateful to have found this website!

You should all be truely proud of what you do to help so many! I also want you to know, that to at least one person in this world, you do make a difference!

Angry Waiting in Columbia

Hi, I found this site last week and it is truly great! My husband is back in prison for 3 years this time. His problem is a life-long cocaine addiction which causes him to steal for drugs. He had just finally started to get himself some help and gotten clean when he had to answer for his latest theft. We both thought he was going to get probation but didn't. I need this forum in order to understand what he and I both are going through. It helps to talk to other people who are going through what I'm going through. Prison affects the entire family, not just the prisoner. We serve the sentence right along with them. Thank you for being there for me. Lisa
