Default Japan -Couple jailed for scalding death

OKAYAMA — The Okayama District Court on Thursday sentenced a couple in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture to 10 and eight years in prison for leaving their 2-year-old daughter to die from serious burns inflicted by the mother in a hot shower in October 2003. Midori Aki, 41, was given 10 years in prison and her husband Kazutoshi Aki, also 41, eight years.
According to the ruling, Midori scalded her fourth daughter Miho in a shower on Oct 26, 2003, because Miho would not listen to what she said when she tried to make her take a bath. The couple did not take her to hospital for treatment. (Kyodo News)
