Lightbulb Wabash Valley Correctional Facility

I just joined this forum after searching through page after page looking for additional information on WVCF in Carlisle, IN. This is an amazing site, and I look forward to contributing what I can to it.

I've recently met a new friend by way of being a pen pal. He is living at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility and is serving a 100 year sentence. I really want to provide as much support as possible in the way of being a friend on the outside who cares, listens and gives what I can.

I have been looking at the Indiana Dept. of Corrections website for detailed info on what the mail process is like, what visitations are like, what we can send to an inmate, etc. But there is very limited info. I called WVCF, and the officer I spoke too wasn't even sure if they could receive photos. I at first thought that the mail system must be lax, but after reading some of your posts - I realize that it may be slow and lucky if they receive mail or not.

I am so interested in getting as much info as possible about WVCF and what it is like to visit someone there (can you touch?, kiss, hug, talk face to face, etc?) and what is the mail system like (what can they receive, what is the waiting period for them to receive mail, etc)?

My friend is in level 4.

Thanks for your help and I hope to visit WV and Indiana one day!

I have a penpal in level 4 and he was telling me that he must hand the letter he writes to the officer for inspection before it is sealed; they officers don't like it any more than they do because of the delay and extra work.

I have sent lots of photos and made copies of lots of his. I've sent perfumed letters too.

My friend can only visit behind glass but is petitioning to get that restriction appealed.

You may be able to call and ask to speak to his counselor and get some information. I am not sure whether they will give you any or not, but it is worth a try! Good luck.

Thanks Ya'll for the info. I'm totally new to this, so forgive my ignorance. I'm wondering also what kind of info I can get on him? Will they give out info to a stranger or do I have to be on his "list"?

My boyfriend is in level four building g there. I go to see him once a month you get eight dollars a person only three people at a time and you can hug and kiss each other they also have a little area for kids that has toys and some times the officers will give you crayons and coloring pages. I foud mail takes between four and six days if it is just a letter but if you have a card or pictures it can be a week. Some things they will tell you you just have to ask and they will say but some they will not because that happend to me they said he had to tell me. visiting for level four is tuesdays and thursdays 11:00am-5:00pm monday wednesday friday 12:30pm-4:00pm the weekends I don't know because I never go on the weekends because they say you would be lucky to get an hour so I go o tuesdays and if their not busy they will let you stay the hole time which everytime I;ve went I've got to stay the hole time. you can go every two weeks {14 days} and you have to watch what you wear your best bet is jeans or nice pants not to tight and a t-shirt or nice dress shirt that you can not see through only wedding rings and thats it shoes I'm not sure I always wear tennis shoes. The phone calls are weired every month the time changes that they can use the phone it may be different for other dorms but my boyfriend is in G and this month he usually calls around ten am and six pm then next month it will be like seven am and eleven pm then change the next month {I hope you understand} If you have any other questions then you can post or pm me I know a lot about this prison my boyfriends been there for awhile and still has a minute till he leaves.

I would love to send my baby a care package but they are so unhealthy. I wish they had some with fruits, cheese and veggies.
