Arrow Jan '07 - Food & Clothes Boxes

FYI...The "rumor" going around is that effective January 2007, you will no longer be able to send in food and clothes boxes. They will have to be ordered through a prison distributor/vendor.

Ok, there goes the ONE thing we can do for our loved ones I personally enjoy preparing my husband's packages. Anyway, it may be a blessing to others.

I LOVED preparing my guy's clothes box (just sent off yesterday). If this rumor is true I will be very disappointed. If we do have to use a vendor, I hope they have some good snacks and not just more of what they get at commissary.

Well, I didn't much enjoy doing the food box (too much stress hoping everything would get through), but I, like Sad Panda, LOVED doing the clothes box.

PROS - easier to just fork the money over and let them deal with the prison.

CONS - how much $$ are we going to have to fork over?

It's just another way the State is trying to make more flipping money, if this is true.

I too enjoy doing my Man Clothes Box. I just sent
him his clothes box. Its sounds stuiped but to us we
bond even closer together. Why does the system say
they want the inmates to be closer to their families but
take it away from us? If anyone hears more about the
rumor please post it here. Im really upset by this.
We shall continue to fight for justice !!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife is at Trumbull Correctional and they have told everyone that the last boxes will be accepted at the end of December. Everything will be bought through outside vendors. And yes one more way for the state to make $$$$.
I dont mind doing food boxes, but at least I know I have bought my last pair of panties !!!!!

Does anyone have any idea which vendor? Or even some comparable ones that serve other states? I'm curious as to what they offer and what they charge.

So it's not just a rumor. How disappointing. On the other hand, thank you for a great resource for rule changes!

Red face Upset but Thank You

I just wanted to post a THANK-YOU for those resources
to clear up the rumor. I too would also like to know what
vendors they may use. My Honey said something about
Eastbay.com being looked at but thats about it so far.
Any other info on subject would be greatally appricated.

I've not sent any clothes boxes because it's so much easier to just put the money on his account and he orders things he needs from their catalogs - at prices comparable to Wal Mart. And that's how the prisons want it to be done. Then they don't have to hire someone to open and search thru all packages that come in.

Food vendors: such a waste of good money. They charge an arm and a leg to send things the guys can get at Commissary. Again, would be better to send them $ so they can spend the maximum amount allowed each week! I think the inmates would prefer it that way too - but you could ask your inmate about it.

Am sure that if they really do decide not to accept any packages for any inmate, they will let us know which vendors are acceptable. One that comes to mind right now is Walkenhorsts and there may be others who will send things to Ohio prisons. Keep in mind that if your inmate is a 3 or 4, he/she may not ever receive any packages......

At least with the new rules for clothes and food boxes that must be purchased through a vendor, the person sending it doesn't have to be on an approved visitor list.

That seems about right. They must be getting paranoid. Yesterday I went to visit and the CO that was at the metal detector and I had a lengthy conversation about bringing drugs in on the wrapper of a roll of quarters. Never thought of that one.

The only way some guys can get food or clothing is from the boxes we send. My man is only allowed to have $10.00 in his account at a time. Anymore than that is taken and sent to the court to pay for court costs. The boxes were his only way of getting the little extras that he can not afford to buy.

My Man told me that there are guys that just sell their prescription drugs to each other (Someone OD'd in his Dorm a few weeks ago, apparently, he thinks). So, I don't think that THIS idea is going to make much of a difference in that.

The thing is most drugs come in with free staff, wether they are c/o's or teachers thats were most contraband gets in. Not visitors or food boxes.

That probably depends on the institution, however the rule states:"
Effective: 01/01/2007
. It also states:"Family members, friends and others (regardless of their inclusion on the inmate's approved visitation list) may order food and/or sundry packages, subject to the limitations of this rule, from the approved vendor or vendors, for the benefit of a designated inmate."
Check out: http://www.registerofohio.state.oh.u...60713_1328.pdf for more details.

Yes thank u, I told her and she said her man had told her that bc of something about a rule where u cant receive any food or clothing boxes for 90 days after being in an institution. Hopefully thats not the case where my husband is going bc i would like to atleast get one in before they stop it.
