You can call the South Dakota Department of Corrections Central Records office
at (605) 367-5190 or (605) 367-5140 for that information.

as far as viewing his information:
South Dakota has conflicting statutes in place regarding the release on inmate information. Some statutes require notification to victims of prisoner releases to parole, work release, minimum custody status, discharge, escape and furloughs while others restrict what information on inmates can be released.

An attempt was made in 2000 to change state law to allow for a web searchable database on inmates, but the Legislature rejected the bill.

Wink A trick to find inmates in S.D prison system.

Don't mess with the central records office. They will just jerk you around.
Just call and ask what time are visiting hours are? And ask if they can verify that your on John Inmate Doe's visit list. They will look it up and tell you yes or no, also if he is or isn't at that facility. Sometimes even telling exactly where they are.
