International CURE Conference in Leavenworth Scheduled

International CURE will be holding it's Board of Directors meeting in Leavenworth Kansas May 3 - 7, 2007.

Anyone intrested may attend - please find attached below a copy of our schedule.

THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2007

Noon - 6 PM/Check-in America's Best Values Inn & Suites,101 S. Third St., Leavenworth KS 66048 913-651-5500. Call this number to be picked up at Kansas City Airport for 25 minute trip to Leavenworth.
Also, call this number to reserve a room if you are not in the leadership of a CURE chapter. The cost of a room will be $50 a night excluding taxes.

6 PM - 9 PM/Pizza and self-introductions in conference room at motel.
Also, feel free to bring brochures and newsletters.

FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2007
6:30 AM - 9 AM/ extended continental breakfast.

9 AM - 4 PM CURE's 1st Conference on Innovative/Cost Effective Programs to Reduce Recidivism: Earn to Learn to not Return! (CURE leaders are encouraged to invite prison officials and legislators)

9 AM - 10 AM/tour of work release program where people in Lansing State Prison near Leavenworth are employed and paid at least minimum wage.

10 AM - noon/tour of another work program in the Lansing State Prison where people in prison are also have good wages and good employment.
Then, observing a classroom in the prison where higher education courses are being taught. Some in employment programs are paying for these college classes.

noon-1 PM/lunch on your own

1 PM - 2 PM/Panel Presentation in conference room at motel that will include Fred Braun, founder of work release program, and Ken Gibson, President of Donnelly College, which provides the college courses.

2 PM - 3 PM/comments on programs by prison officials and legislators.
Motel van is available to take them back to the Kansas City Airport.

3 PM - 4 PM/comments, questions and discussion on programs by participants who are not prison officials and legislators.

4 PM - 6:30 PM/- free time with dinner on your own.
Annual Board Meeting of International CURE

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM/Report and discussion by Jonathan Edwards, Chair of Interim Study on CURE's relationship to organizations within the prisons. An position committee might be appointed to report back on Sunday morning.


SATURDAY, MAY 5, 2007

6:30 AM - 9 AM/extended continental breakfast

9 AM - 10:30 AM/Debate on report on medical testing of people in prison and on probation and parole.

10:30 AM - 11 AM/coffee break

11 AM - noon/comments by participants alternating with pro and con on debate. A position committee might be appointed to report on sunday morning.

12:30 - 2 PM/lunch provided by International CURE

2 PM - 4 PM/Presentation on accreditation by Mark Flowers, Director of Accreditation for the American Correctional Association.

4 PM - 4:30 PM Break

4:30 PM - 6 PM/Update on CURE priority legislation in Congress- second chance act, phone bill, revival of federal parole, etc.

6 PM - 7:30 PM/free time with supper on your own.

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM/Panel by CURE's Issue Chapter SORT (Sex Offenders Restored through Treatment). Chaired by SORT Director Wayne Bowers.


SUNDAY, MAY 6, 2007

6:30 AM - 9 AM/extended continental breakfast

9 AM - noon/approval of minutes from last meeting, financial report, reports of position committees (if they were appointed), old business, new business, adjournment.
noon/van takes participants to Kansas City Airport

noon - 1:00 PM/lunch on your own for those staying for workshop.

1 PM - 2:30 PM/Workshop by Kay Perry begins on how to start and develop a chapter. Everyone is welcome, but contact us if you plan to stay. Kay prepares a packet of information for each state that is represented. This takes time to research.

2:30 PM - 4 PM/Workshop continues.

5 PM - 7 PM/group goes to supper together.

7 PM - 9 PM/Workshop continues.

6:30 AM - 9 AM/extended continental breakfast

9 AM - Noon/Workshop concludes. noon/van takes participants to Kansas City Airport.
