Exclamation Flooding

I just wanted to say that I hope all of you are safe & well. I know that here in Cedar Rapids we are expecting almost 25 feet of water. THAT'S ALOT OF WATER!!! Our flood stage is like 12 feet so as you can see that's huge. And probally close to half our town has been evacuated. So its scary as well.

That is a lot of water. Try to stay dry, ST, and get the hell out of there if your gut tells you to.

Remember Katrina. There are some things human beings just have to get away from.

Good luck.

im from ceadr rapids. I just moved to forrest city ar to be close to my hubby but all my family and friends are there. I heard all the bridges are closed and the animals at the shelter were all taken to kirkwood to be safe. I hope the inmates at the jail are all ok since the river is below them.

I watched the news tonight here in Portland. The announcer said a jail (?-didn't say which jail) had been evacuated.

Hope everybody's OK.

I believe that it was Anamosa... is that one in Cedar Rapids? They came to Oakdale, my brother said that they are all sleeping on cots in the gym.... it must be bad.

Ok this is what I found.

Jail evacuated

A total of 400 inmates from the Linn County Jail were transported to state prisons in other counties.

About 365 male inmates were divided into two groups and transported to prisons at Oakdale and Anamosa. Another 48 prisoners were transferred to the state women's prison at Mitchellville, said Fred Scaletta, a spokesman for the Iowa prison system.

"This is an emergency, and everybody has to step up and help each other," he said. "It's about public safety, so the main thing is to keep them secure."

OK guys -- As soon as IOWA gets declared for Federal Assistance from the President, be sure & register w/ FEMA, the news will definately let you know when it's been declared. Their number is 800-621-FEMA (3362). We just got Indiana yesterday & we expect Iowa to follow. Friday's are a big day for the President to sign Declarations. If you have any questions about any of this let me know.

Just so you all know. All of our bridges were closed. The river crested at nearly 32 FEET!!! So it was pretty high & scary. the linn county jail was evacuated. Anamosa is just fine. They took the county people to Anamosa, Oakdale & Mitchellville. Or so they say. Per a Jones county sheriff most of males are in Anamosa & the females are in Oakdale. But from what I have heard, the contracts with the prisons is for 60-90 days based on the county the person came from.

Seeing the pictures on the news & hearing the reports is one thing. I drove across town yesterday & to see the water covering places that I have memories & places that I have stood is SOOO hard to see. Not seeing landmarks that you normally would, not seeing our bridges. Unless you have seen it you don't understand it.

Some of the trustees have been working their tales off here in Fort Madison. I know they've earned some well deserved respect from the community. One person I know personally who had a very negative opinion has changed his mind for the better. I'm so proud of our I.S.P. guys! I thank them for all there hard work.
