Default What is the detox process for meth

When I talked to Chris today they were calling him to medical. He said it was so he could detox. He has been in jail for three days now. I thought detoxing was just the term used when you were quitting meth or whatever your habit is. Can someone tell me what specifically is done during a detox

There is no specific medical protocol for detox from Meth. If he has not been using for 3 days the drugs are out of his system [give or take a few hours]. There is no medical risk when coming off of Meth. There can be a rebound depression that is primarily due to brain chemistry rebound--this can last days/weeks/months. Typically when one is coming off Meth they sleep a lot [body's need for rest is great] and eat a lot for the first several days until the body begins to equalize it's self.

Default Meth

Hi my name is Marta and my son Jesse is doing 120 days shock. He has an addiction to Meth even though that isnt what he is doing time for it had a impact on him. I know when he was first in county and I would call they said he was sleeping alot. He only got up to eat and right back to bed. I had friends that worked in county and they said that was normal for the first few days whether it was being locked up or withdrawal. The first time I saw him he was very emotional and begging to get out. The next time he was calm and more like the son I have known for 33 years. He knew he had messed up and admitted he needed help. I was so proud of him and I still am. People snicker and laugh that he is in prison but I am still proud of him for making the decision. IT can happen to anyone, anywhere, from any life style. Those that dont understand are hypocrites.

Keep the faith

Default I know the feeliing

Yes, I tell my grandson that has just gone to prison also that I am proud of him. I am proud of all that he has done to conquer his addiction. As I told him in one letter it is not the wrong that you have done that builds character, but what you have done to overcome it. Being able to change your life when you realize how wrong you were, being able to stand back up when you are being pushed down takes a strong person. They need our encouragement with what they are facing.

I know first hand the detox off meth. Me and my fiancee are both ex meth users. the first couple weeks for me where hard. you sleep all the time and pretty much hate life. You crave it(still after i year sober i crave it), you randomly smell it. You have meth dreams where you smell it when you wake up but you also use in your dreams. Depending on how long he has used for he might be in pain from detoxing. My fiancee sleep for a week straight when he went to county then he was in pain because he used for 5 years and never was clean. Meth is a hard drug to get clean from and the detoxing is horrible, they really just make sure you are okay and as comfortable as possible when you go to a medical place to detox.

The first few weeks for me were spent sleeping, eating, and sleeping some more.
I was a crabby, hypersensitive trainwreck.
My mom, bless her patient, forgiving heart, made me take tons of vitamin C and B-complex.
After the first few weeks, it became more about learning again how to be sober than about saving my physical life.

i just wanted to give some info that i have learned over the yrs (i have been the care giver to my stepfather for almost 17 yrs...he has been using for nearly 40 plus yrs, there was also a time i used with my ex)...meth much like coke will "stick" to your fat cells and periodically you will get cravings as it is released. this is one reason it is so hard to kick...in general for every one year of use it will take one year to fully release from your body. although it is not enough to make you test dirty it will bring on cravings, smells, and a slight euphoria.
meth does serious damage to organs (your body temp becomes so high you are almost cooking your organs), your brain function becomes impaired this can be temporary to permanent (i suggest if possible have the user see a neurologist) in my dads case he has been diagnosed with several mental illnesses unfortunatly we do not know if the mental conditions were there before the addiction or brought on by the meth.
i send (((hugs))), prayers, and positive thoughts to those of you dealing with this madness called meth. whether you use or you are a family member/friend of someone who is using just stay strong and keep faith. if you need to talk or want info feel free to PM me if i do not have the info i can get it for you....if you need to rant scream or cry i have been there and i am here for you and if you have a positive please share!

i also forgot to mention it effects your electrolytes and your endocrine glands...you lose potassium (this can cause kidney failure and other organ failure) and that is when you get the "cold sting" in your hands and feet this is very serious. you must flush your system with water and eat foods with potassium (bananas). yes sleep is good and it is very important to get your bodys chemestry back on track so please be sure they are eating healthy and taking in as much water as possible.
