I live near syracuse
i was thinkin if we rent a place itd be easier to have a place with tables and chairs then have to rent them too an probably each person bring/making something or throwing down on some sheet pizzas would be the easiest unless we all just order our own chinese or subs or something but that could be hectic if its mad people

Just for the record, usually it's almost impossible for people from all over the state to get together just for the heck of it. You won't usually draw more than 12 or 14 people. Try planning for something more that size., especially if you're doing this before it's really nice weather outside.

I'm in NY too. I'd be interested in getting together. On weekends its possible to find parking on the street in NYC. Any other time parking will run you $30-40. Another suggestion is White Plains--easy to get to by car or train (Metro-North RR), inexpensive or even free parking. I'm in the Bronx, so either is alright with me.

I would be interested too, the city is a good place probably because more people live there than upstate, I live upstate about 1 1/2 hrs from the city but can get there pretty easily. If you make it an early dinner time g2g then people that are on visits that day at some of the downstate prisons could come right from the visit too. If this is not in the NY forum can you put it there with some of your thoughts on doing this? I think that renting a place would be a bit too much, finding a good restaurant or even bowling alley that has a good amount of room for a medium crowd should do and won't take much planning or money.

Damn! I will be visiting Fishkill on the 27th! I drive down on Saturday from the Rochester area – wish the G2G was a week later, I could have made a stop off in Kingston. I would love to meet you ladies. Have a great time.

I agree it should be outside of the city. I live in Yonkers. The city is a hassle to park, everything is twice the cost. It is hectic. I live in Yonkers 20 minutes from Manhattan I am there often but it is not any easy place to travel to if you're not taking train or subways and it is expensive. White Plains is good. I live in Yonkers on the Metro North. Depending on what we would be looking to actually do I would be willing to help organize. I think we may get more people than we may think if its convenient.

What about when it gets nicer our..make it some where that is fre, like central park ..for a picnic of something. Everyone bring some food or drinks, plates or napkins....some sheets and no matter how many people come it was a free location. Visit days would be hard, as no one knows exactly when everyone is free. Unless we all plan to skip a visit that day. And anyone with kids won't have to worry about restaurants. And there are plenty of trains by Central Park, everyone can take the good old public transportation NYC has to offer?

Does anyone know of a park that would be very close to a Metro North stop? This would accomodate people from the city since they can just take the metro north and then people with cars would not have to worry about parking and then we would not need to worry about paying to rent anywere.

Are you going to go ahead and organize something, because once it is set up then people will be able to say for sure if they are going and plan for it depending on the place, date and time.

Thumbs up Join

I would love to join. My husband is up in Attica now looking at a 4 year bid. He got one in already but it would be nice to speak to other people who are from NY and have a loved one in this messed up prison system. It would also be great if anyone knows of another bus service or private van service that goes up there other than Prison Gap.
