Default How to get rid of rats!

Hello everyone, let me get straight to the point. Does anybody have any advice on how to get rid of rats?? I have tried just about everything. Got the traps. The sticky ones that they stick to and the old fashion ones and even this new one where he's supposed to go in it and it's easy to throw away.

I have got to get rid of this rat ASAP! I am such a chicken. I am scared in my own house. I don't feel safe. And this is not a good feeling. I'm already stressed out about my boyfriend (man do I wish he was here b/c I know he'd know what to do, plus I'd feel safe)

It's like I haven't seen him, yet. It started about a month ago I found the droppings. And I knew that was the first sign. And then I thought he had left but recently I've seen more droppings and hearing him. Chirping and stuff. And I had a banana left out one day and I noticed it had been eaten.

It anybody could please tell me something. I can't afford a exterminator (sorry if spelled wrong) but any other ideas who defiently been appreciated.

I have a 9 month old song and I don't like having a rat in the house, b/c the idea of him getting on my child toys or his crib or anything just erks me.

HELPPPPPPP please

And I also need to mention I am soooooooo scared of rats. They creep me out. I don't want to look at them. And I know how the saying goes, if there's one, there's usually more. I am in my bed w/ my son next to me literally looking around creeped out. I have NOT had a good nites rest since....probably October. I am stressed out! I am crying as I am typing this. I know the stress is more than just a rat being in the house, but it's also me missing my boyfriend, and tomorrow it's supposed to be severe weather, and I am terrified of being under a tornado watch. I am just a little chicken lol I hate to admit it but it's true.

Cats! Clean, chemical-free and effective. OK, so if that doesn't work....You can't use poison, small child in the house, and I am sure you know that rats are so smart those traps just do not work. Humane traps work, but I do not think they are cheap. I keep coming back to cats.
When I moved into my house, there were mice everywhere...EVERYWHERE But one kitty later, no mice. Now its years later and I have lots of kitties. No mice in the house, so they go to the neighbors yards and hunt their rodents.

Thank you soooo much for replying. But you may laugh when I say this, but I'm scared of cats too lol! Everyone tells me that all the time, I need to get a cat, but then they laugh at me b/c they know how scared I am of them. My boyfriend's mom has 2 cats at her house, and everytime I go over there to bring my son so she can see her grandson, I am always so scared to get out the car and everyone that's there has to help me get in the house. It's really sad I need to overcome my fears.

What are humane traps? Can you get them at Wal Mart?

And yes I have noticed they are smart! I feel like this set of rats are REALLY smart. I haven't had rats in a long time, and they were easier to get rid of.

Humane traps work because the rat goes in to get the snack and the little door shuts behind them. I found some online at Amazon and this site or you can try to make one
I am sorry you have an issue with cats. They really are good animals. Hope this helps a bit!

buy some rat food and poison at walmart, mix them together and you should have some dead rats soon enough. Maybe put sticky paper in front of whatever lil hole they come through. I had one in the garage, that's what I had to do.

ok get ready to think I am nuts. BUT I have used this site to get rid of rabbits from my garden and it worked very very well. It is a web site that sells "pee" from predators. I believe they recommend bobcat pee to get rid of rats. (fox pee for rabbits)

http://www.predatorpee.com/Merchant2...tegory_Code=PP

predatorpee.com if link does not work. Simple, effective, not poisonous. The fox pee even got rid of rabbits from my neighbors yard.

Borrow a terrier! If you know anyone with a Jack Russell or Dachshund or similar vermin dog, you just keep them for a couple of days. They are relentless, eager and very, very quick. That's why there are so many around barns- keeps the rodent population very, very low.

What did you use as bait on the traps? Also, is it a rat or a mouse? There is a difference.

Thank you all so much for replying. I just went and got some rat posion and a humane trap. I'm going to set them out in a little bit. I'll let you all know what the outcome is. I'm just going to keep praying I get this rat (or these rats) out of my house.

Careful with the poison. If the rat dies in the house and you can't find it, you could end up with a stinky funk on your hands.

I had instant sucess with putting peanut butter on the traps. I found where it was going and caught the mouse the next day.

A friend of mine told that she tried that with the posion and she couldn't find the rat and her house stunk for days. I may have to try the peanut butter. I know he likes to go in my shower (which I have no idea why) but I've found alot of terds in there.

you poor dear thing,i'd be horrified, too!!!Get a kitty.mine is a serial killer when it comes to mice.We had a mice problembecause we live across the street from fields and that scared me.I can't imagine how terrified you must feel.

I don't know if this works for rats or not,but my friend told me to buy these electronic things that plug in rooms in your house. They emit a soundless racket that is unbearable for small rodents.Let me just tell you we haven't seen nor heard a mouse since buying those things.A pack of 6 was like $36 but it solved the problem IMMEDIATELY.you could go to walmart and loook for them and check the back to see if they work for rats as well.

Default Electronic Waves

I think it is supposed to be ineffective with carpet.

Well this is day 2 since I've put all the traps and posion and everything out and I still haven't caught anything.

However I didn't hear anything last night, or found any new rat terds (I keep up w/ them as soon as I find out I clean it up so I'll know if it's a new one or not). So I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll go away.

I was wondering though does the weather matter? b/c It's really cold outside and I was wondering will that make the rats come in or will that make them leave?

Rats and mice always try to come in in the late fall, for the warmth.

Edim-
I don't have rats, but I had to laugh when you said your family has to meet you because I am the same with mice and cats (and squirrels).

Okay everyone, I haven't heard the rat in the past 3 days now. However I have noticed they have been eating the rat posion.

I think one of them has died b/c in the kitchen/washingroom (they're right next to each other) I smell this nasty smell. I woke up this morning and when I went into the kitchen I was just whoa what is that smell! I took the trash out, but the smell is still there. I think I may have got one, I'm not sure. I really hope so.

Since putting the rat posion out I feel very cautious about my son's toys. Tomorrow I am going to wash them all. I didn't really let him play with them today b/c I've been worried about what if the rats have been on them. And he's 9 months so of course he likes to put everything in his mouth.

But thank you all for replying and being supportive. I thought when I wrote this I wasn't going to get many reply's. I feel like everyone here is so supportive and caring, and I really needed that. Because with my boyfriend away, I always feel alone and he's the only one who's just really there for me...besides my mom. So thank you all!

I know I'm so late with this post but if you ever find urself having issues with these things again try the electric bait things they are more costly to have installed but instead of the dead rat smell for days you get a burned hair smell for like 5 minutes when the rat goes inside of it... its like sending them to the electric chair lol

the rat has probably died inside your walls. . . that's the problem with poison . . . so there will be a smell for a few more days. Then it's over!

I hope so too. Even though idk if all of the rats are gone or if there was just one. I feel a little bit safer but now 100% yet lol. But hopefully by the end of the weekend I will.
