My son was moved to seg for six months a few weeks ago after getting into a fight. He was in the Medium Security Unit, now he's in maximum. He told me he can receive two visits a month, can still write/receive letters and books....no phone calls, no tv- although he said he can request his tv back after 3 months. The visits are now no-contact, with a glass wall between us and he's in chains.

Does it effect the inmate's out date or transfers to another prison, if they are sent to Seg.

My son's counselor told me that is based on the severity of the infraction that put him in seg. My son joined in a fight to help his celly who was jumped by two others.

They also made him take a urine test (fight was possibly over contraband, not very clear on that). The counselor told me he was waiting on the urine test results before he could tell me if his release date was changed - since then, his test was clean and his release date is the same.

So basically, being in seg doesn't automatically change one's release date. Which I was very surprised to learn!
