The title of the ACLU of Northern California's report on the Death Penalty in California is "California's Death Penalty is Dead- Anatomy of a Failure.

The major statement of their conclusion is: In polls and at the ballot box, California voters have shown that they are ready for a change. The time has come to replace the death penalty with life imprisonment without possibility of parole, and with a requirement that prisoners work and pay restitution to the Victims’ Compensation Fund. Only by replacing the death penalty with life without parole can we provide justice to California taxpayers and communities

Yes, lulupine, as always: money talks. But you know what: I don't really care why they will eventually abolish the death penalty. If human rights and compassion don't count as much as the economics, well ... Even if they say a big spider came from Mars and told them to stop it, I just want to see it GONE!
