Default So...IDOC is going with a new phone service

Beginning Nov 1, I understand that the phone system provider will chance from Securus to another company that will also offer the offenders to purchase calling cards. Hopefully this is a *better* system. I'm wondering if our rates will increase? Also, Securus/ CBS money doesn't transfer over so plan ahead!

the new phone system is going to cost us more compared to what we pay now.

When is the switch? I got an account today and called to set up my pin and was told they do not service any facilities in Indiana. The guy was an idiot. I just tried to call the facility and ask and was transferred to a line that just rang and rang. Anyone know?

Still don't know anything. I emailed them and bitched them out and I noticed I had a call from an 800# I missed. Called back and it was that company. It will be cheaper for me than CBS. Instead of $6.08 for 15 it will be somewhere around $4.80. I'm in Florida.

I set my new accnt up last week. I must have had the same guy, he was an idiot. Told me the computers wouldn't let him set up or take accnt info until november. Then I called back the morning of the first, I was able to go online and set up my accnt and put money on it. I was also told the new system would be on by Friday or the middle of next week. Well Fridays come and gone so I'm thinking next week. Guess it'll be on when we get our first call through their systems, whenever that might be. It'll be cheaper per call and the service fee was only $3 instead of $6.95. My calls should be $4.80 also. I hope this change will be worth it. It's about time family and friends get a little break.

When my fiancee was in Marion County they used PCS...it was about $4 per call (15 minutes) during the day and on weekends, and about $3.25 at night (after 8 PM).

When he was in Johnson County they used CBS and it was $3.21 for 15 minutes regardless of what time he called.

He should be in DOC in about a week and will get calling cards then. I will post the info once I know how much they cost him and how long we get to talk.

I'm just PRAYING it's cheaper. Between phone calls and his books I'm easily spending $500 a month right now! Thank the Lord for overtime and raises!

Just received this reply to my email to pcs.

"The Westville facility is scheduled to cut over to us on 12/06/2011. This date could change depending on equipment factors. We are sorry for the treatment that you received from our agent. What is your phone number?

Post Phones at Pendleton

I have been going thru the same with PCS. Went online & added $50. Then was prompted to call to set up a pin. Did so. Was told there was a one time $3 activation fee, but no further fees to add money to the account. (I questioned this as the web-site said to the contrary, but was told no further fees.) BUT, at his location (Pendleton Correctional) PCS would NOT be taking over until 11/30! So, my $47 sits until 11/30. (The $3 fee was taken immediately.)

Called Securis to find out they are STILL the carrier. Added $50 and was told this time, the fee was $5. (It had always been 6.95 in the past.) CSR said the fee to add funds was based on the facility. It was less than I had ever paid and decided not to debate it with her. She could not confirm that Securis would be out for this facility by 11/30. So, I added $50 with Securis. It is frustrating and difficult to know what is going on & how much to add at a time. Don't want to keep incurring the fee to add $, but don't want to lose the funds that remain on the account. This was all done in the wee hours of Monday morning (11/7). (around 3-4am). At least now I have money to the correct company and we can talk again! FYI...Securis made it sound like it was "by facility" that the carrier would change on different (November?) dates.

This was my experience. I hope it helps someone & others are having an easier time than I. Blessings to all.

p.s. I've called PCS three times. Yes, customer service stinks. I will say the "best" of the service came this last time in the middle of the night. I have never had so many issues with asking what I thought were simple questions. GOOD LUCK!

My BFF who lives in MI just went through this transistion from CBS to PCS and it was a nightmare...no clear date of when the trans would happen as they phased the prisons in a little at a time, so I set up an account and added $25 dollars, set up my pin, for which I wasn't told of a $3 fee for that...and kept my CBS account...I have seen where the new calls will cost a flat 24cents a min with no connection fee, which will raise my calls almost two dollars...that sucks but if the service is better than it will be worth it...supposed to happen around 12/5/11 but who knows...

My man is in WVCF. I have an account set up with PCS too. I guess my money will be sitting there until the switch as well. Thankfully, our calls will be cheaper. I will not be giving Securus any more money.

Have a good day!~

My fiancee is also at WVCF, he told me yesterday that service from securus will be shut off the morning of 12/5 and new service from pcs will be turned on by that same afternoon. Sounds simple enough, out with the old, in with the new, but we all know it just doesn't go that way. Wait and see I suppose.

You said your man is at WVCF, not sure which housing unit he's in, but GHU is on lockdown. One of the COs got hit during lunch. Hope this doesn't include you, wish it didn't include me.

Thanks for the info. No, it doesn't affect me. He's in D. I just called the automated line and no visits for G still. I'm sorry that it's affecting you and your loved one. Hopefully it'll be over soon.

I got a letter yesterday, said it was only for G. He also said a month on lockdown. I've spent more time away from him, this year, than I care to think about. Thanks for letting me know.

Just spoke with WVCF and the date they planned to transfer the phones from Securus to PCS has been pushed. She doesn't have a set date yet but said that it's gonna be after the 1st of the year. That sucks, and I guess my money will just sit in that account.

Anyway, wanted to post what I found.

Hey ladies, yep Wabash GHU is still lockdown. I hate not getting to hear his voice. I miss my visits. This week isn't so bad, this actually is my off week so my routine is normal minus phone calls. I hope the lockdown is lifted before Christmas. I really wish they would make up their minds on the phone system. I have money sitting in both accnts. Hope everybody's well, thanks for letting me know what's going on.
