I used to go on Download.com and look for free antivirus software. Cool thing about it is that you can see how its rated.

AVG is good. And its free: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download

Malewarebytes is also good, and free: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

If yoyur computer is running slow, you probably need to download ccleaner (its free too):

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/.....this cleaner will clean out temp files, cache, browsing history, all sorts of gunk that slows down your computer.

After downloading Malewarebytes and AVG, run one then the other. Then download & run CCleaner. Then you might want to defrag. I'll bet your computer will run much much faster

Avast is also good. I have been using Avast for a long while...never had any problems. It is suggested by the computer engineers in my school.

I go to my tools and scroll to the internet options and over to the browsing history and clean the history out and it speeds up my computer. The free anti-virus I use is Avast.

Yes if your computer is running slow some other program is taxing the processor chip.

I know a anti viral program seems to be a simple answer but a fresh copy of the O.S.

Is the only tried and tru way to get everything back to par.

Then install a antivirus but beware of things in life that are FREE.

There is one called the "Spyware Sheriff" and it is nothing but malware.

There is also a new way to hack into your computer with what is known as RAM hacking, and none of these so called anti viral programs can touch it.

If you limit your web browsing to trusted sites and dont download Torrent files you can avoid catching any viruses.

Beware the Police have a ton of ways to get into your computer other then just the ability to monitor your ISP, and they are laughing all the way to the bank, so to say.

The less you surf the web, the less chance to get infected.

Dont forget to get a decent firewall and have it configured to close all the ports that are open and used by hackers for whatever they want.

This seems so complex you my say,,, IT IS!

I recommend Avast. When I sell new computers I give the customer a disc with Avast on it and ask my service customers if they would like it installed on it for free (I never charge since Avast is free). They also have Mac, Android and other versions available. http://www.avast.com/en-us/products#tab3

I used to buy ESET, but I now use Microsoft Security Essentials plus do a malwarebytes scan from time to time. Both malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials are free
