Default Prison Food at home

Saturday 9am, im a little hungover from Friday junk and movies in bed night - babe is asking for some advil and water so i know he's hurting a bit too - i ask him if Denny's sounds good, (babe's been out for a little over 7 months from a 12 year term) you'd think he'd be hopping out of bed to get ready, but noooo - he wanted corn beef and hash... i was like what is that exactly??? One of his favorite prison meals

We have it quite often now with sunny side up eggs and or on the side with other breakfast stuff.... he sure loooves corn beef and hash.

Any of your men still enjoy eating or making food they ate in prison?

Mine's not out yet, I just wanted to say I loooove corned beef hash! My mom used to make it for us a lot as kids with eggs either sunny side up or just kinda scrambled up into it. Yum!

Ha ha, my guy is still in, but I was visiting with his brother the other day and he was making "spread". His brother was inside for a few years and came home 2 years ago. He was eating Ramen, pork rinds, fritos, cheese, mayo and white bread. All I could do was look on in amused horror. I can't wait for M to come home to see what crazy things he brings home with him.

Lol, brandon makes that but he does ramon, bbq sauce, ranch, cheese, and sausage (vienna when he is locked up) it sounds and looks horrible, but when I was pregnant if ate the hell out of that stuff. Can't wait to have him home.

I am pretty sure he won't be wanting any of the prison food that he eats now. He is in Yuma Arizona on the Mexico border so most of the food is mexican (which I love and he hates)!

Maybe the ramen - but don't think so after he tastes some of my homemade soups =)

The only food that I make which even comes close to the prison spreads I used to eat is Frito Pie. Only difference is here I can layer it and bake it in an oven instead of heating the chili while it's still in the can and pouring it over Fritos. Yummy either way.

Okay...this is an interesting topic for me. My husband still ate his prison spreads before he got locked up this time. Ramen noodles combined with whatever meat and junk was left in the fridge, a can of chili that he still heats in the can on the stove top, always with corn chips of any kind. He just got released from a 7 month bid 12 days ago. His eating habits have not changed a bit. He took the wonderful dinner of pork chops, asparagus, fried potatoes, home made mac & cheese and turned it into a spread putting it all on tortillas adding shredded cheese and jalepeno peppers to it. Grunting his way through it, sayin "Good Shit Momma"....and I'm like How the hell would you know if it's good or not cuz you just turned it into a big pile of mess!! lol He has done this with pretty much every single meal we've cooked for the last 2 1/2 years we've been married. It is what it is. As I watch him "create" his nightly already prepared meals, I shake my head in amazement. Gotta love 'em for it. He sure as hell won't ever go hungry if he can eat like that!

Haha! We are actually really superstitious about this topic. When he was home the first time he had like 3 weeks left on his parole and he made a spread for him and his buddy who had also done some time at one point to share as like an old time sake kind of thing. I jokingly said it was bad ju-ju and told him, watch now your going to get arrested for some dumb shit. Sure enough, later that day he got arested...

So in our house thre are no spreads allowed. We also don't watch any prison shows, all the jail and prison documentaries I use to relish when he was away are skipped over quickly in the channel guide now.

When Pat was in, he always told me he wanted to make me a "dip" when he got home.

But he hasn't yet...and I don't think he will. He says he is too happy eating my good home cooking to eat prison food.

He's making spread right now. He has crunched up ramen noodles and dehydrated minced onions in a big metal mixing bowl. There's crunched up spicy hot pork rinds, a can of mackerel, grape jelly and sriracha in a plastic bag. He just grated cheese (no squeeze cheese at Safeway) into the bowl and poured boiling water on it and is squishing up the stuff in the bag.

I missed a critical step because the dogs had to go out and he "doesn't know" what else he did, but it's all mixed up together and he ate it in a cold flour tortilla. I've definitely had worse (my Nana once made a fish casserole that had hard boiled eggs in it... Nasty doesn't even begin to describe), but it would be better without the squishy rehydrated pork rinds. I'd eat it otherwise.

Mayonnaise. That's what I missed.

Last time he made spread he was back inside the next day. He told me that whenever he makes prison food on the street he always ends up in prison. I think his luck is changing but if I get another call from a police car it's the last spread he eats!

Mine will never eat a spread on the outside!!! For those of you that don't know a spread is top ramen noodles with stuff in it like beans, seafood or whatever. His friends and brother eats spreads all the time but he won't touch them. He won't even eat the top ramen noodles regular and looks at me in disgust when I eat them. And don't even get me started on beans......

Since my man has been home he's made me a brick which is like what the other ladies called a spread. He crushes up hot Cheetos, ramen, jalepenos, and adds water to it in a bag. After a while the ramen soaks up the water ( called "brickin up") then you cut the bag and it's like a casserole almost, then you put all manor of mayo and cheese and whatever you like across the top.

He also makes yak but its just wayyyyyyy strong coffee, and whip which was the best by far.

Whip it when you take like a fourth cup of sugar to a cup of instant coffee with another fourth cup of water and with a fork whip it until it almost turns into a shake kind of. My wonderful man made this for me by hand and it took him like an hour and a half but it was pretty damn good. I think I might try my hand at it today...
