Default Hardest thing to explain to those that have been down 10+years

I just wanted to hear other funny stories about trying to explain a new invention or breakthrough to our loved ones.... my most difficult was explaining how facebook worked, and the funniest was explaining who spongebob was and he wanted to know what the hell a snugee was!!!

Autocorrect is when your phone automatically corrects or changes what you text...the phone assumes the 'correct' word.

Love that autocorrect book, I saw it in the book store and laughed out loud while browsing it.

I think the most difficult thing to explain was the computer/internet and all the various software. When he called I would look stuff up in minutes; things that would take weeks of letters for him.

He played 'investment' and kept notebooks full of stats; gains and losses.....I told him to send me one and I put it on a spread sheet with graphs and the like.....he was amazed that it only took me like 30 minutes to set up and 30 minutes to in put the data.

He is still stymied by all the office products.....

I don't know what a snuggie or a Sims is either. But I do know my guy had a horrified look when I told him I wear a bluetooth. He said "like Spock?"

My hubby has been down over 16 yrs. and I have tried to explain facebook to him, how many things are automated and you don't talk to people. I told him how I pay for my gas without going into the store and pay bills over the internet and how I transfer money from one account to th other using my cellphone or the computer. It just freaks him out! When he went to prison 55 mph was the fastest you could drive on the interstate, now it's 70 mph. He is amazed at all the changes.

I remember reading an article about a guy who had been down for awhile. After his release He was somewhere where he saw someone using a key card to get into a room and he thought they were thieves trying to break in.

Mine told me he was in the prison auto shop mulling around and watching another inmate working on a car. He asked him if they still made cars with spark plugs.

The best one though was when we were talking about adult toys...he was describing what he remembered them looking like etc....I said "No sweetie...they do everything but talk now."

How about this I just realized the original tvs were huge things then they got smaller and the futuristic ones were tiny but now they've grown again to be huge but flat.

Last place Lifer was placed they had a big flat screen, DVD player.....as the 'old fashioned' TV's died they are being replaced. I don't think you can even purchase a big tube TV any longer.

Also they used to have basic cable until the digital age with the converter box.

Lmbo....so true! This whole subject(electronics and t.v) has my hunny asking 21 questions! Another thing is the cost of living in Ca. ,when he was out last,he was paying $600 for a two room apartment,I told him now that would rent him one room at his mamas! He could not believe it!

Last night I was talking to my guy while ordering an angus burger at the drive thru. He thought I must be at Hardee's b.c there the only fast food joint that serves angus burgers. How surprised he was when i said I was at McDonalds. He was just amazed you could get angus burgers from Mickey D's. I told him there wasn't a whole lot you couldn't order from McDonalds now.

I was talking to my guy the other day and told him that my kids were eating Trix yogurt. He was like "Wait a minute, TRIX HAS YOGURT!! Are you serious?" I laughed so hard because he said "That sounds awesome! I want some Trix yogurt!"
