Assault? Misdemeanor or felony? How much time?

not sure if this is the place, but..

my cousin got hisself in a pickle, he went to his ex's house they got into a arguement, both were drinking, he said during the arguement she lunged toward him, he said out of instinct he reach fer her but during the struggle he said he snapped an felf like he went outter body, put his hands arond her neck an said 'ill kill you' an threw her to the concrete an took off..
cops went to my aunts house, he wasnt there..

now hes scared to turn hisself in afraid he's going to prison..
he talked to her couple days afterwards, said she was upset but didnt press charges, said she was bruised an swollen..

he wont listen to us to turn hisself in, tryin to tell him it will be ok..

all he keeps sayin is hes going to prison an he didnt even realize what he was doing..
hes never been in trouble before, just some weed charges like 10-11 years ago..

i looked up strangulation charges in west virginia, an seen none, assuming its assault?
is he lookin at misdemenor or felony charges? howmuch time would he get?
i hate seein him like this, all hes been doin is lookin out the windows an just sittin in his room..

Try looking up Assault or Battery sentence, or look under family assault & battery under that state and you should be able to find your answer.
