Default Keeplock vs Box/SHU

I have a couple of questions regarding the Box vs Shu. My husband was sentence to 6 months "keeplock"- not 6 months in the "Box". So if his sentence was worded as "keeplock", why did they send him to Upstate Correctional which is an all "BOX" facility? Or are the two terms defined as the same? What is the difference between the two if any?

keeplock is not shu, but for some reason I do not know they sometimes do send people to do their keeplock time in the shu. sounds wrong to me but it is what it is. Keeplock has fewer restrictions than shu does such as having your own personal items in the cell with you. Keeplock generally is in one's own cell with all their stuff. Perhaps the person you are talking about was in a medium so they were not in a cell but were in a dorm. That might make the difference. In a max everyone's in cells and when you go to shu it's with a lot of restrictions. Another example of the difference I believe is that keeplock people are not supposed to be limited in visits whereas shu visits are only once a week. Sounds like if a keeplock person went to a shu facility that they are going to end up more like shu than keeplock.

I wanna say keeplock visits are limited too like they get out early & you can only have like one a week.

Sorry for bad post. Was doing it too fast. More than one month of keep lock is served in shu.

You can visit once a Week not once month.
