The mailroom staff will bring any packages that usually require a lay-in to the housing area. They will also come to the housing areas in the morning to collect outgoing mail.

It must have been Monday because I talked to my hubby Sunday night. He knew it was coming so it wasn't a surprise, they were due a lockdown. It's an annual one where they shake everyone down. Usually they last about 30 days or so. The longest one I can remember was a couple of years ago and it was something like 43 days.

Make sure you make a reservation at a motel as soon as you know you are going. they are hard to get down there due to all the oil companies reserving them. They are building motels like crazy down there but they are filling up. Sometimes I drive to Beeville but even that is getting bad. Some people go back to San Antonio or Seguin. I always call a certain motel when I know I'm going even if it's a month or two early.
And to just let you know, that most of the people in that town are not friendly at all. At our last visit, I was talking to a CO about it and he said he agreed and that most of the people who work at the unit don't live there, they drive. Take a computer with you or a book to read because there is nothing to do in that town. Walmart will take you about 30 minutes because there is nothing in there. There is a movie theater in Beeville and we usually go because it's like $5 to get in and you can get a coke and popcorn for like $5.

I have my room reserved in San Antonio for the weekend and I would hate to go for just a 2 hour visit on Saturday..its been way too long and we have been looking forward to this visit for awhile already shoot since he got there march 1st. I called the unit yesterday and she said they were allowing special visits but I wont call again until the monday before i leave to make sure and request it. I got a letter from him monday but it was from the wednesday before so Im hoping today I have a letter in regards to the lock down. When he called friday he said he would be going to store tuesday so it sucks that he wasnt able to make store before they went on lockdown...

Weve been trying to schedule ours for a couple of weeks and they kerp telling us they arent scheduling them right now and to try back. Regulat visits are at least on this weekend. U might keep trying to request ur special visit since ur driving so far. We will too!

Yes, special visits are allowed during lockdowns but sometimes the first weekend of the lockdown sometimes visits aren't allowed, just depends on the warden. Which is why they won't schedule a special visit, not sure about regular visits. It might be a good thing you had to push your visit back. I had my special visit a couple of weeks ago. My husband has been at this unit for 14 years and visitation rules depend on the warden at the time. They recently got a new one so he might be doing things differently. Before this one, I've had a special visit during a lockdown. Just call and if they won't take the request on Monday, it's pretty sure they aren't allowing them. And if I was just driving for a regular visit, call Friday before 5 to make sure they are having visits. I always call on Friday anyway to make sure that they are having visitation before I drive 6 hours one way. Just telling this based on my mannnny years dealing with this unit. I'm glad I went a couple of weeks ago and wasn't planning to go again this month. They were locked down about 630am on Monday, my husband stuck in a note with the letter he sent on Monday morning saying all the workers were coming back to the pod so they were on lockdown.

I was pretty sure they were allowing them, they usually do. Once in a while they don't but that's only happened to me once in all those years. Don't worry about it too much, I'm sure you'll get your 2 days and enjoy every minute, it seems like a long time but it goes by too fast. And since they are on lockdown take lots of quarters because believe me, he will be hungry especially if he didn't make store beforehand.

I got a letter from hubby yesterday and he said that this time they did something different. Instead of having to pack all their stuff and take it to the gym, they had to put it all on their bunks and they had to go to the gym in their boxers, T shirts and shower shoes while the CO's went in and went thru stuff. They were in there for 6 hours and when they got back, they had taken everybody's state issued pants. Not sure what's up with that but since they can't go anywhere, I'm not sure what the point was.

Hhhmmmmmm. That is weird...but then Tdcj does what they want...t he 2 letters I received. Were from Easter weekend and didn't mention anything about the lockdown. But he did say was waiting to make store so hecould write his mom back so I'm assuming he may be out of stamps...hope this one doesn't last that long and that these next 2 weeks fly by I'm missing my husband
