Default What can I bring to camp?

I'm awaiting my assignment, but my lawyer says I will be going to a Federal Women's Camp. I'm hoping for Greenville, IL because its close to home. I'd like to hear from anyone that has been to camp or is familiar with them. What can I bring with me when I surrender. I've read some regulations. I know you can keep a wedding or engagement ring and a cross necklace. Can I bring a list of telephone numbers and addresses? Money for commissary? Medications? I'd also like to know if anyone is aware of what types of communication are allowed at camp: mail, email, phone calls, internet access??? Are you allowed to bring any personal clothing. I've seen a few TV shows where they have allowed camp members to bring some types of clothing (plain shirts, sweatshirts, etc). Can I bring a pair of tennis shoes for running?

Thanks for any info you have!

Default What you can bring to camp

I will tell you that everything you see on TV is about state prisons and not the feds. You can bring telephone numbers. You should have money sent via Western Union as soon as you have you BoP inmate number. Whether you can keep medications is up to the facility. You will not be allowed to keep any personal clothing or shoes.

I spent 18 months at a men’s camp in Texas. I now work with men and women facing incarceration and give you all the details you might need. Let me know if you are interested.

Once you know where you are actually going, you can check to see what you are allowed to bring. Intake for a camp is usually done at the same R&D as the other prisons there. You can bring money, but it will get money into your account quicker if you send it to the lockbox yourself as soon as you know what your inmate ID number is (XXXXX-XXX). This link is the bop Inmate Money instructions.

When I brought prescriptions with me, they were taken and new ones (not necessarily the same ones) were issued during the medical screening. If you take a list of names, addresses and phone numbers, it should be OK, but as a backup have someone mail you a copy of the same list, or mail it to yourself on the way to prison. You will definitely be allowed 300 phone minutes a month (400 in Nov. & Dec), mail and probably email, but no internet access. I doubt that you will be able to bring, or keep personal clothing but a wedding ring and simple religious jewelry are allowed. Good luck, camp is definitely the best place to serve your sentence.

Hey, I was actually in Greenville...I still know a few girls there so if you end up designated there, message me and I can give you someone that can help you get around when you first get there. Ok? You can bring a bible, wedding band, necklace-cross-religous one, money (but I suggest you just have your people send it to western union it will get to your books faster..if you take money, they will send it to the lock box which could take 7-10 days to get to your books rather than just hours) You won't be able to use the phone/email/etc for a couple days. Be prepared for that. The time varies depending on your counselor. That will be Ms. Bell. They will take your clothes/bra/underwear and you will be issued those items by the BOP. OH you can have a watch and glasses if you got perscriptions...anything else you got a question for, let me know!

My husband was allowed to bring money with him. I would say take all you want. They Will send whatever isn't allowed back home. Good luck. Be blessed.
