Default "Special visit" what do I expect?

I am coming from St. Louis to visit my husband at Eastham in 2 weeks, he told me to call and request a special visit, what is that? How to I request one and what is acceptable attire? Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I cover my bases before I make that 13 hour drive, and does anyone know of any clean, reasonably priced motels near Eastham? Thanks In Advance.

You need to call the unit and ask for inmate records. Tell them you are requesting a special visit, they will take down your information and you will have to call back in a couple of days to get your answer. A special visit is on Saturday and Sunday for 4 hours each day. I don't know about that particular unit but most units are the same about attire. No sleeveless shirts, no shorts, capris are acceptable, you can't wear all white, nothing low cut or see-thru. At my hubby's unit you can wear flip flops but some units you can't. When you call about the visit, just ask them and always take an extra change of clothes just in case. Also, at my hubby's unit, can't say for sure about the others, underwire bras are a problem. If you set of the metal detector you will be pulled aside and have to wait for an officer to do a search which consists of taking you in another room and lifting up your shirt to make sure that it the reason the metal detector went off. Our daughter sets the stupid thing off every single time and she doesn't even wear an underwire bra. Don't know about the motels in that area maybe someone else can help you but you can always google. I get special visits with my hubby and I always try to reserve a room at least a month before because they are hard to get but his unit is in a tiny town that has a lot of oil field workers. You can take in up to $25 in change each day to get him snacks, has to be in a clear bag. Leave your cell phone in the car, don't take it with you. You can take the change, your ID, and your keys, nothing else. Make sure your address on your ID matches what he has on his visitation list. If you get contact visits which I'm sure you will if you are married, you will be able to hug and kiss him when he comes out and when you leave. Your time doesn't start until he comes in, and you can hold hands during the visit. Hope this helps, every unit is different in some aspects. Good luck and enjoy your visit.

You recently said he has been getting a lot of cases and had phone privileges suspended,so you do realize that most likely his contact visits were also suspended. I've always stayed at Days Inn (most recently last month) in Huntsville. Rooms are clean and the motel is decent enough. Huntsville is about an hour from the unit.

Some times. I'd call the unit to be sure. Chances are the special visit will get denied because he has been in trouble.

In the post a few weeks ago, you mentioned more than one major case. As such, I would anticipate that there was a custody downgrade that will have impacted his ability to have contact visitation. It would be an administrative response to the disciplinary sanction even though a specific visitation restriction might not have been imposed.

As to the original question about motels, there are a handful in Huntsville that put you within about 30-45 minutes of EA (it is not necessary to go out to Trinity and then double back on 230 anymore...you can go out whatever the road is to E2 and it will connect up with 230 not far from the front gate of Eastham). You could also look at Crockett which puts you on the other side of Trinity and the area around Eastham. While I am sure Trinity probably also has motels of some sort, I do not know that I would be willing to suggest ANYONE actually *STAY* in Trinity...

There is also the Hospitality House in Huntsville that you could stay at. They give you a room and 2 meals, dinner after you get there and breakfast in the morning before you go to visit. There is no charge to stay there, but donations are accepted to help with the cost of running the place, but not necessary. As to whether you can get contact visits with him, just call the unit and ask. That's always the best advice.

I have included a link to the TDCJ website. Just click here and scroll down until you come to the special visits section. I hope this helps some.
