Default How long did your LO spend in reception?

OMG!! So my bf was sentenced the 19th of last month, and we kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to get moved. He'd said that it would normally happen Tuesdays or Thursdays, so we were always holding our breath. We dreaded it due to not being able to call/visit/see each other for a while, but at the same time were excited for it since the sooner he gets it over with, the sooner I can finally visit him and HUG him since for the last 5 months ever since he got arrested, I've only seen him on a video screen. Well today, I had a couple appointments during the times when he'd normally have time out so I thought maybe he just didn't call because he didn't wanna interrupt my appointments. Well then tonight after no call, I went on stalker mode and found out that he FINALLY left!! It hasn't hit me yet, especially since I just got a cast put on my foot and found out I'll need surgery on my knee so basically I've really only worried about myself. It'll probably hit in the next few days when I don't get a call during our usual times. Anywho, I've heard stories where reception takes a couple months, but his cell mate said it'll really only take about a couple weeks. (His cell mate has gone to prison 4 other times.) So ladies, how long did your LO spend in reception??

PS, I know usually if they're in on a parole violation or waiting for boot camp, it takes longer. Luckily, my guy isn't there for either of those.

My boyfriend is on a felony probation violation and he was in reception for about 2 and a half, maybe 3 weeks. I'm in NC and the place where he was said 4-6 weeks was standard and if they could, they would ship them out sooner but I'm sure it varies state to state. Reception is tough. Try and hang in there, I hope you hear from him soon and the process moves along quickly.

My boyfriend spent a little over two weeks in reception. I heard that was pretty fast and but that most had been getting out in that time frame, but like people say, I am sure it varies state to state. He told me when he was in reception before, he spent I think almost two months or more in there. Probably just depends on how many people they have going through there and his charges. Good luck and I hope he gets through quickly so you can visit :-)

Well my guy was moved to reception on the 19th and he didn't call yesterday so I called the prison tonight and asked if everything was okay and if he could have a visit Friday they told me he was scheduled to be moved so he's been there 16 days

he spent 6 weeks there. He kept telling me he wasn't suppose to be there that long from what he had learned at the prison from other inmates. That usually it was no more then 3 weeks. But that was a long time ago... there is no telling how long the wait could be now lol

Thanks ladies for all your responses!! I hope the longest he's in there is about 2 weeks or so, but I'm not going to hold my breath! Like I said, I'm stalking him lol. But I do have a couple medical issues going on during this time, so actually I'm glad that he finally went yesterday so I can take care of myself and focus on my broken body (LOL). It kind of sounds selfish, and I am by no means glad he's gone, but I'm more looking forward to him getting settled in his prison and visiting him.

@jussme, your dude is allowed to have visits while in reception?? Geeez, I live in IL and our inmates can't have calls/visits/NOTHING!! Maybe it depends on which reception center here, but the one my man is at, he has no privileges.

@purplegirl yes he's at Stateville. I THINK that's where my bf's cell mate was at during the times he went to reception, so maybe Stateville is super fast with it. I certainly hope so. It feels like I'm single again. What sucks is I went to the IDOC site to search for him and saw his new mugshot, and he looks like a totally different person. (Prob due to the fact he shaved his head, probably for sanitary reasons)..but gosh he has that "prisoner look" which if the average person looked at him, they'd think he was dangerous. He's not, PROMISE!

@samigrace, I'm sorry hunny!! To all of us who have someone in reception, I hope the time goes by faaaaaaaaaaaaaast! I need to talk to my bf and hear his voice...I'm going crazy without my "drug" lol.

@ishookedonhim, I'm sorry he spent that long there!! I know the DOC website it warns that the upper limit could be 2 months, so that's what mentally I'm preparing myself for just in case. I don't want to keep thinking 2 weeks and then be disappointed if it's longer. I hope there's not too many inmates there and they get them out in an efficient manner. This is torrrrrrrrture!! Whenever my phone rings, I keep thinking it's him. People mainly text me if they need to reach me, of course he could only call me, so I keep running to my phone...only to remind myself he can't call during our 'regular' times...ughrgruhgeuhgewuhte!! LOL

Stateville doesn't take that long honestly. The guy who did a few of my tattoos just got sentenced to 3 years and got to Stateville June 28. As of this past Saturday he is already at his permanent prison.

missstewart09, I don't even know how you deal!! That's when you know prisons are severely overcrowded when he has to wait that long to be moved!

Purplegirl1008, thanks once again! That's helped me feel a lot better! Although of course, I won't be 100% until he's actually moved and when he gets to call me, but thanks!!!

You're welcome! Glad I could set your mind at ease. Oh, and my man was at Stateville about the same length of time as I said for the guy who did my tats.
I hope your man doesn't get sent to where mine is! It's a horrible place! They are locked down 23 hrs a day and only get to call 3 x a week.

I might be PMing you a ton, since you have experience with the IL system. Hope you don't mind, girl!

Feel free to PM me whenever! And as far as the dates the first is when he will be released on parole. And the second is when he will be released from parole (off paper).
Yeah they usually put the dates up right before they are transferred so I'm thinking maybe by this weekend? You'll have to let me know where he ends up!

My guy was sent on the 27th. I did the same thing- no call, assume something else, get into stalker mode, look at his shaved head... I was really upset the first week- same feelings about being sad there won't be visits/calls but excited the process is moving because he's one day closer to being home!! I'm hoping wherever he's sent- it's safe! ...as safe as prison can be :/

Do a lot of men shave their head when they go into reception?? Mine certainly did and it's so weird, because he usually has a full head of red hair...so it's weird!! On the IDOC site, they FINALLY have the parole date/discharge date, etc, does that mean they're getting ready to send him to his home prison?? Up until now, they didn't have that...hmmmm. I hope so, though he's only been there about 5 days now lol. Also, weirdly he's serving 10 years but only 50%, PLUS he'd been in county about 6 months..so really only 4 1/2 months. But on the site, it says parole date is Jan 26, 2017 and his discharge date is Jan 26, 2019. From what I remember the judge said, was that after he finished his sentence, then he'd have 2 years of supervision. So does that mean, he doesn't get parole? OH CONFUSION! LOL...
