North Dakota law now has penalties for someone who sells sex. But buying sex isn't a crime.
The new bill says it's a misdemeanor to hire a prostitute.
The penalty is a maximum of 30 days in jail and a thousand-dollar fine.
A Fargo legislator introduced the bill after Fargo authorities conducted prostitution ``sting'' operations last year.
The prostitutes were hauled into criminal court, but the men who hired them were not prosecuted -- because there wasn't a law against hiring a prostitute.
