Good for you Katie! She deserves to be fired. I don't know where some people get off thinking they talk others down like that. Maybe now they will quit harrassing you.

Stop giving out any information. THEY don't care & it won't make any difference to them. Just say, "Thank you for calling. I'm taking care of it" & hang up.
Anything more, just gives them fuel for the fire. It won't stop them from calling, but at least you'll know they didn't "win" by getting you riled up.

She was absolutly wrong in speaking to you that way. Don't give the next one an opening.

Hi, I can't believe that lady said that to you! That's so rude-I would've been as mad as you were. Did you hear anything from the supervisor? I hope they really do fire her, she deserves it. People who have attitudes like that about everyone in prison without even knowing what they are talking about annoy me!

Thanks ladies for your support here....I called the supervisor back, but he was "out for the day!" I'm sure...he's probably hiding from me and I would hide from me if I was him too!
I will make sure I pursue this until I get some kind of result, not because it will make what she did right, but because I will feel a WHOLE lot better about it!!

And to the person who said not to give out that information (Im sorry I forgot the name its been a LOOONG day!)....I have spent a long time trying to hide my husband's incarceration from some people, and I one day realized that I don't care what others think about it. I am not ashamed of him or where he is. Plus, I feel its important to let them know that my husband was the victim of identity theft and that he's not just "avoiding paying the bill." It's sad but inmates are often the target of SS# fraud because they are usually none the wiser until they are released that anything is going on with their credit. The creditors can't just call the prison and ask if they are going to pay their credit card bill that they never opened in the first place. It's so easy to obtain credit cards and other accounts in someone's name as long as you have their SS#....it's very very scary, so everyone please be careful!
I'll keep you all posted on what happens....

I am late to the party, but GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Customer service is such a huge industry and impacts everything and so many people just SUCK at it. It's a shame.

I'd keep at him until I talked to him again. I would suggest writing a letter to his supervisor as well. (If you can't get it, you may want to write a letter to customer relations for the company.)

GOOD LUCK! GO WOMAN!

Default heres how it works

ati2d why are your comments always so negative. Katie good for you and standing up for you and him. Let me tell you how a collection agency works for I worked in one but had to quit because they were brutal and i am sorry but if people don't have the money they don't have the money to pay. She will not get fired they will make her choose another fake name to go by. Yes, they go by fake names. They never use their real names for their protection. The supervisor is going to ignore all calls from you and avoid all calls. The next collection agency call you get to them you want them to cease and desist all communication at your job. They have to go by this if they do not you can sue them and you will win. If you call the cell phone company and speak to someone in their collections department and send them something showing Marc was in prison they will write the charge off. Better yet send it to all his credit report agencies to get it straightened out. Whatever you do do not let them call you at work becasue now she knows your pissed she is going to play games. Goo luck

She has some nerve to say that - may the gods ensure that her husband never lands up in prison. She might just have another attitude about the whole thing. I too was never ashamed that Steven was in prison. If you didnt like it - tough.

Good of you to handle it like that. Also never give up trying to get your justice. Even if you have to pretend to be someone else when you call.

Good for you for sticking up for your man.

I had one laugh when I finally had enough and told them ( it was the electic company here). They were sending him his ex-wife's light bill because when she got the lights finally taken out of his name she had the last bill sent to him. I have fought this forever. I finally told them he was in prison and I wasn't paying her bills. She just laughed and told me then he will never have electricity in his name. I told her I have it in my name so who cares. Since his ex is still living in that house their best bet was to get her to pay her own bill because I sure as H*** won't and hung up. Haven't heard back in years on it but I have no doubt it's still in his name.

Katie, handle your biz-ness girl! You are dead on the mark... her job is to attempt to settle accounts and not to analyze your choices in love. She must have been having a Dr. Phil moment or something. You did the right thing to slap her silly butt off of the high horse... she's not paying a gazillion dollars in taxes as a telemarketing rep anyway.

I hate when people pull that holier than thou crap... and just like you, We are not amused!

Let us know how the stupivisor has responded since he did not have the decency to call you back when promised. (Go figure... they have no problem calling you any other time.) SHEESH!

Well the supervisor finally called me back and of course the conversation wasn't taped and of course the employee denied ever saying anything like that, so there is nothing he can do....that's what he said..."My hands are tied" were his exact words. I said, that's fine Mr. Supervisor, you will be hearing from my attorney.
I have filed a formal complaint with the FCC or whoever that agency is that in charge of collection agencies and the like. I have contacted a couple of attorneys, and I will keep you all updated!
Thanks

Default take a stand!!!

Good for you! I am glad to hear that you are taking a stand and refuse to be treated that way. I hope you can sue that company for everything they have! I wonder how often stuff like this is not recorded when it should be...figures though right?

If you write them a letter and send it return receipt requested and tell them that the only way you wish to be contacted is by mail then they can not contact you by phone or at work -- specifically state which address they can contact you at -- give them your home address. Once you do this then you can file harrassment charges against them if they contact you by phone or at any other place. Also tell them that it was a case of stolen identity. Was the bill run up while he was already in prison?

Also depending upon the state's laws concerning the collection agencies you can tell them that you wish to not be contacted that you are taking care of things and if they continue to contact you then you can file a harrasement suit on them that way as well... At least that's how it is here in AZ.

Yes, the bill was ran up after he was locked up. Changes were even made to the account that he clearly wasn't able to do.....**sigh** oh well, we will get it all straightened out one day!!
