Default Hurricane Katrina donation question

I am from Missouri but my thoughts are with the New Orleans inmates and their families. But thoughts are not enough right now. I would like to know if someone here would keep me informed in the days to come if a relief fund or anything of that sort is being set up to assist these inmates. I know that there will be many relief funds set up for the families that live in New Orleans but I would like to know if and when there is a chance to give assistance to the inmates. They will be everyone else's last priority. Please PM me with any info.

I like the idea however I am not sure how it would be possible to get funds directly to inmates and determine how they should be handed out to them. I am more concerned with the families of the inmates but the destruction is so wide spread we won't be able to determine any of that either for quite some time.

I agree with both of you! It sure would be nice if we could get donations there though.

I know that because of our situations we all would like to help these inmates, but the whole area needs all the help it can get now. If you are able to make donations, I would urge anyone who wants to help to donate to the Red Cross. I don't know off the top of my head how to get donations to them, but I am sure it would be easy to find plus when donating to the Red Cross you know your money will be put to good use.

Red Cross will need the most help.

When I say this...I understand how we feel inmates are often left out and forgotten...I'm part of PTO because I understand. However...while their current conditions may worsen right now, they will be placed and fed and also they will be sure to have clothing on them. Consider those who have nothing...not even a job to return to in order to 'attempt' to rebuild a life!

AngelzHeart05. I believe richland detention center is farther north closer to Monroe. My husband is at West Carroll closer to the Mississippi State line in northern LA, also not far from Monroe and he only got some heavy rain, but nothing severe. Your bf might be having a hard time calling because the phone system is overlaoded with people trying to get through to their loved ones. I'm sure he'll call as soon as he is able to.

I know that everyone says Red Cross, but only a small portion of what you give is used for relief....they pay their higher ups extremely large salaries, so only about tweny per cent of what you give goes to relief...
There is the Salvation Army, which more that 80% is used for relief, and Catholic disaster relief 100%, Baptist disaster relief 100%....
I have missing relatives in Pearl River,La and Pascaqoula, Miss....please pray that they are found
