Unhappy Alcohol Treatment Programs at Vandalia?

Today was a bad day. My boyfriend was sentenced to 2 years. I know too many that it is really not that long but it was awful today. I spent the first half of the day in court. Drove 1.5 hours home and spent the 2nd half of the day in bed and in tears.
I had quite a few questions the past few weeks and thank you to anyone who answered. It does mean alot.

I have a new question. We think that he will be sent to Vandaila. I visited the IDOC website and don't see anything about any programs offered by the prison. Does anyone know if there is any type of alcohol program or treatment for prisoners? Is there a link or info about it on the net? He has been dry for the past 2 mo's because he has been locked up but I'd like to have him get some treatment also. He does STUPID things when he drinks and I can't go thru this again. I'd like to know about anything before I start asking him to look into it.

Thanks Again!
Laurie

Sorry Laurie - it'll be over sooner than you think. Two years will be reduced to probably six months minus his time served in the county. Almost all facilities have some type of alcohol rehab program. He can attend meeting at most. There are a few prisons designated for intense rehab but I don't think Vandalia is one of them. I know Shawnee has a lot of substance abuse programs, as well as Sheridan but I think there's an AA program at the majority of the prisons. If you register with VINE - victim's notification program in Illinois you'll be notified where he'll be sent to before he even arrives there. Look on the Illinois DOC home page - it's a program rum by the Attorney General's office....you'll get a pin number and any time he is moved or released you'll be notified in advance by telephone after entering your pin number.

You can even set up VINES for email notification if that's easier.

Hi Laurie
Vandalia has a program called Gateway for drug and alcohol treatment. I don't know if it's treatment as much as it's just like a class. Seth didn't do it because of his work schedule. He can't get good time for it anyway because of the charge, but your boyfriend can probably get good time for programs. If you want to PM me your boyfriend's name, I can talk to Seth and have him give him any information if he meets him.

Does anyone know how long the Gateway program is? Is it like a class or is it for the entire time they are there? How does it work?
And what kind of good time to they get for doing it?
Laurie

Sorry to bother you all with another Question about this but I am starting to feel like I lived in a box my whole life. My BF will be getting out around May. I am going to MAKE (I'll cut off communication, so I know he will do it) him get into some type of treatment while in prison. He has been dry since Nov 04 (since he was arrested) -- I don't know what kind of steps I should take when he does get out. He has been in IDOC 3 times now and each have happened because he was drinking. Has anyone had any type of experience with their inmate and treatment After they got out? Has anything worked? Or whats the best thing I can do to make sure this does NOT happen again? I'm open to anything!

Al Anon might be a good idea for you. It will help clarify what will work and what will not. You have to figure out what you will put up with, and what you will not and communicate this clearly to your boyfriend. He might just think he has it all licked while he's in there and doesn't have ( as much) access. Be very clear that he will need treatment and follow up. Al Anon can give you support to hold the line.
You might be able to get information on what programs are available from his counselor. Are his parents involved? The IDOC website even has some information on programs at each prison.
