Smile New Here

[size=3][font=century gothic][color=blue]
Hi Everyone, I am new here and to this prison stuff. My husband just started a 15 yr sentence here in Florida. Because I have chosen to stay married to this man, that I love with all my heart, I have lost my entire family and all but 2 of my friends. I have done a lot of soul searching about my marriage over the past 11 months, and I know that this is the right decision for us. Because of the spinal problems that my husband suffers from I decided to contact Shirley Dicks of the JEff Dicks Medical Coalition. Shirley's son Jeff died in a TN prison due to medical neglect. I am so passionate about prison health care, that I have now formed the Florida Chapter of the JEff Dicks MEdical Coalition. We are dedicated to making sure that ALL prisoners have adequate and timely medical attention.
My husband suffers from Advanced Degenerative Disc Disease in his neck and spine along with Spondolythesis, Spondolylosis in his spine. His doctors told him last year that one wrong move could paralyze him or kill him. The DOC here in Florida has now decided that he isn't disabled (contrary to Social Security Judge decision that he is 100% disabled) and have him mowing grass with a mower that doesn't even have a motor. My husband's only relief of pain is Ibuprofen, which they haven't refilled for him. He put in a request for a refill on 2/6/02 and hasn't gotten it refilled yet.
MCI had put a block on my phone, which I have sice taken care of by paying the bill, but because I had to have my telephone number changed due to harassing calls, the CI won't let him change the number on his outgoing calls until August.
My decision to stay married to this man was made after much prayer and soul-searching. It wasn't something that was made overnight. You see, my husband molested my daughter. I am not making light of what he did by staying with him, but God has shown me that HE changes people. He has shown me that this is the mate that HE has chosen for me. HE has shown me the changes that HE has made in tihis man. My daughter is 9 years old, and is in therapy. She considers this man her daddy, as she doesn't have contact with her "bilogical father". She has forgiven my husband, and doesn't understand why the judge won't allow her to visit her daddy.
Anyway, that's my story. I know the future won't be easy for any of us, but with God's help and Grace, we will make it.
Tracy

Tracy...
Wow... that is so much to deal with... I can feel the sense of being overwhelmed just by reading your story. I know that rough times seem even harder when you lose the support of those that are "supposed" to love you and be there for you during them. I hope that you are able to find some comfort in this group, and know that everyone here is here to support you in any way we can... Whether it be just to listen, to offer advice, or to help you advocate for your husband. Don't lose that faith and don't lose hope....
You don't have phone contact with your husband.... are you able to visit him? I am curious as to what you have done so far to address his medical issue...
Stay strong and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.
Peace,
JD's Wifey

Cool Inmates & their Families

Hi Tracey:

Welcome to this site. I hope you will find some refuge here and maybe even some good advise. At least you have found the people who are in the same situation as you and who maybe can give you at least, a lot of support. We all have so many heartaches, but this site really does help.

Donna

Welcome to the PTO. I have some questions about the foundation that you are a part of. I have alot of concerns about the health care in texas. They never deal with it. If they do they just do a bandade fix and never really address the problem until it is out of control.

Thanks for the welcome. Hi Gillian, I know I thought that was you when I saw the screen name. Isn't it nice to know there is such a support system out here for us?

Shortie - for the state of TX, you can contact Karla Moore, at
karlamore2454@yahoo.com She is the president of the TX Chapter. Any questions she can handle. I am not versed in TX health care needs or laws.

Again, thanks for the welcoms.
