HeSo, the intent behind my story about going to my mother-in-law's funeral wasn't to start a discussion away from your situation. It was just to put things into perspective and let you know I identify with feeling like everybody is looking at you while doing something you aren't entirely comfortable doing. Sorry it strayed from your situation.

Not the hood, my hood -- BIG DIFFERENCE!! I could go anywhere and take pics, but in my own neighborhood and there's always people out, folks could flat out be wondering "hey, did she just take my picture" or "is she trying to take my picture?! " Who wants to explain over and over "nah, just taking pictures of the neighborhood to send to my husband."

Because I'm not photogenic, I do not like taking pictures otherwise I could just hand the camera to any passer or hangerby. It seems the only ones I'm really satisfied with are the ones I take with him at visit and with my webcam.

Last night I went into Pathmark and wanted to take my camera to take some shots because he was always in there, BUT I JUST COULDN'T!!

If I lived in a big city I'm sure I could find pictures on the net, but I don't -- I live in a town, so I don't think I can. Plus, I know what I want and I know I won't find it on the net.

****
PBE, thanks for the burst of encouragement because I agree with what you said. If I change my mental focus and just throw myself into it, nobody would be able to stop me!! So as a compromise of what you said, maybe I'll cheat a little -- maybe early on a Saturday when things haven't opened yet and the streets aren't full of people, I'LL HEAD OUT THEN!! Then, while I'm at it, I'll venture outside of my town to keep it going. Outside of my town, I'm totally comfortable. Sorta like people who go on vacation -- some are prone to do things in that hood that they would definitely not be comfortable doing in their own, know what I mean? Guess that's where the cliche what goes on in ________ stays in _________ comes from, which means alot of people in one way or another can relate.

I'm glad to hear that almost all of you can relate to what I'm saying, and I surely do appreciate your suggestions. Thanks LadyBugs!!

No babe, you didn't stray -- your post was based on the principle of what I'm saying here so you were right on point. I just wanted to throw some encouragement your way in the midst of receiving some myself.

What a great topic!!! I just had some pics developed today. I'm a little skiddish taking pictures in my neighborhood, too. I managed to snap a few on my deck, I want him to see all the pretty flowers, we have a special planter that an 80 year old gentleman made special and that man has now passed. And the hummingbird feeder, my husband insisted I put one out so I guess I can "show" him, yes, see the hummingbird feeder!
I took some inside shots of various things, like his favorite painting on the wall. Last visit I took some photos of the scenery while I was driving and one of me while I'm driving to see him. Goofy shot!
You could always pretend you're a visitor and talk with an exotic accent! Like French or something. And say, "Pardon moi, would you be so kind to take my picture so I could send it back home?" That would be fun, to have someone to do that with. Maybe get a friend to play along. Not trying to offend anyone either. We all have accents!!!

Now that is funny because I've lived in this town all of my 45 3/4 years so the FIRST thing someone in my community would want to know is "what's up with the phony accent!! "

Outside of my town, however, while I wouldn't need to do that, it is a fun idea that I will keep with me. Further, when my husband comes home we can go into Manhattan or wherever else and put your idea to use. Look at that -- you done gave me something to forevermore remember you by!!
