Default National Divorce Rate is 43%

Here are headlines from July 11, 2006.

National Divorce Rate Reaches New Highs
July 11, 2006
There were 2,219,000 marriages performed in the United States in 2004 -- the most recent year for which statistics are available -- according to the National Center for Health Statistics, a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Within 15 years, about 43 percent of those marriages will end in divorce, according to CDC surveys.
-------------------
So all of us with break ups shouldn't really be so suprised. Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. It doesn't help the hurt go away AT ALL but it might help to put our own break ups into perspective. It's normal. Sadly.

Those figures do not surprise me as being a normal. Nor does the 85% figure limited to just our lifestyle surprise me as being normal. Because quality has gone down rather than up over the past 10+ years I wouldn't even be surprised if the current figure was even higher than the 85% it was in 1994.
Can a Marriage Survive a Prison Sentence?

Can a Marriage Survive a Prison Sentence?
According to the Aleph Institute, the divorce rate among couples where one spouse is incarcerated for one year or more is 85%. That doesn't leave many couples in this situation with much hope of making their marriage work. . . . From the searching we did on the internet, this is an aspect of marriage that appears to have had very little research or study.

This article was done in 1994 and as stated in the article, this is an aspect of marriage that appears to have had very little research or study. Because there are so many marriages whereby one of the partners is in prison they really ought do some research and report the current numbers. But no, none of this being the norm surprises me one bit.
