A lot of time inmates are sent to Pruntytown for classification purposes and then sent on to other facilities for housing. Pruntytown only has level 2 and 3 inmates, whereas Huttonsville has 3 and 4. Also, a lot of male beds at Pruntytown are used for intensive drug programming and rehab.

thanks, so it's not uncommon for them to be transfered like that? A friend of mine said that the usually move them from pruneytown to huntinsville and then saint marys when they are getting close to getting out i wasn'nt sure if that was true or not..

Actually it depends - if your friend has been in the system and came to Pruntytown from another facility then was transfered back to the Hut...chances are he caught a write-up and the disciplinary action was to send him back to the Hut.

If he was there on evaluation, did he go to court and was given his sentence? That is the other possibility.

Actually Pruntytown is pretty much the last stop..if you get transfered there you're classification has dropped to a min. and you're eligable to see the work release board & there are road crews. Once you make it there you usually leave to work release or parole.

True enough, but there are still women at Pruntytown who are doing very long sentences - some life - and aren't eligible for work release or parole. Why they haven't been transferred to Lakin is anybody's guess.

Well he could of been sent back to the hut for several reasons yes it could of been because of a write up, or it could be a detaineer from another state, or he make not be claasified to be there, but don';t worry huttonsille isn't as bad as you hear the co's let a person do there time without much stress, i have found that in wv the guards are not that bad in the prisons its the jails that are bad but the prisons are more like if the inmate repects the guards he will get the same respect back,

now information on huttonsville
you will go through elkins and its about 20 miles from there the riad get a little nasty in the winter but not that bad, you better obey the dress code if you visit or they will send you right down to the dollar general store to change.

when i visited i stayed at the valley view inn its not that bad now there is a free place to stay its the hodge bishop i never stayed there but i know its right behind the prison almost.

don't worry about the hutt its not all that bad, its prison but i have see worse prison's so it could get worse

ps he won't be going there just because his sentance is ending shortly either if he was about to max out he would of went to mcdowell county, or stay at prunytown, or place on work release becasue the hutt is about to become a mini max but don't stress its not that bad trust me

Yeah the long terms are still there..and I think the ones transfered from Lakin. My understanding is the new facility for minimum classifications is now open (built behind Lakin) and those at PCC will be transfered back. 'Rumor' (we know how that is) is that the long-terms at PCC will be heading to Lakin also, because they are going to use start using PCC as a work release center also. I know when I was there the only way the long terms got sent to Lakin was over write-ups. Again rumor, but supposedly they were all to be moved to Lakin in the summer of 05 AND they had cleared the entire SHU out..none of the beds were filled for like 3 wks but the grapevine had it that the unit mgr at PCC for the women got the transfer suspended Who knows? I don't begrudge anyone being at PCC but there were alot at Lakin who were minimum classifications and had to sit in the max facility because the beds at PCC were taken by the long terms. Seems things are always backward huh?

Unless he was sent to Pruntytown for classification only, it's unusual for someone to be transferred from there to Huttonsville, or any other facility, except the work release centers.

If he has a fairly short time left on his sentence, he will more than likely remain at the "Hut" until he discharges.

Huttonsgille isn't a bad place to be housed. They have quite a bit of freedom, and can earn a GED, work within the prison or get outside clearance if they are classified low enough to get on the road crew. There are lots of opportunity for improvement, but the inmate must want it himself.

As far as a place to stay, the place is The Bishop Hodges Pastorial Center. I stayed there for Open house, and it's a great place to stay. It is on the road beside that Exxon, turn right and go downt hat way four miles. You MUSt call at least a week in advance to go there, but I tell you now, they are booked for the next month. Valley View Motel is a great little place to stay. Been there many times, and I like it because right there in the parking lot is a little store and on the end of it, is a little restaurant that has pretty good food. I get it to go, and go to the motel and eat, and never leave the lot!!!

There are some folks here that have recently visited at Huttonsville so maybe they will be along soon to answer your question.

As far as calling the facility is concerned, I always advise people to do that before their first visit because you will be getting the most current info. It's unfortunate about their bad attitude - answering the phone and questions that people have is their job - but sometimes we as friends and loved ones of inmates will run into to that. We just have to perservere.

Good luck!

Visitation for Huttonsvilke is on Saturdays and Sundays and all State and Federal Holidays from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. You do not need to make an appointment, just show up. If you're going in the morning you should be there before 11 because Count used to be at 11 and they won't let the men come to visitation until count clears and that could be 30-45 minutes or more. So if you get there before 11 you are good. I think they used to have count at 2, not sure. I remember there was another count in the afternoon, but can't remember when. It's veen a very long time since I've been there for visitation. I think the last time I was there was in early 2005. They are good about changing things, so I don't know. Does anyone know when count times are during visitation???

There's usually no nood to call them to ask anything. This I have found out from experience. They don't want to tell you anything, or they just plain don't know. You will find out more here than anywhere else!

Take care, God bless,
Bonnie

You are right about the times Miss Bonnie. But one thing is that they earn their visiting time. Every visit they miss they earn 2 hours and the most they can visit at once is 4 hours. So for example I visited Keith on the 25th and he didn't have any visits for that month. So he has accumulated a bunch of visiting time and we got to spend the entire 4 hours together. But if I would have gone at the beginning of the month on the first weekend then it would have only been 2 because it starts over each month. I hope I'm explaining this ok. Also BIG NEW ALERT!!!! TAKE NOTE!! They told me while I was there on the 27th that UNDERWIRE BRAS will NOT be allowed anymore. They are not doing the wand any longer and if you beep going through the detector you will not get a visit. Maybe I should make a new thread and tell everyone. I set the thing off everytime I went and it was because of my bra. So they told me about their new rule coming up. So ladies wear your bras WITHOUT wire. OH and PERFUME or anything smelly will NOT be allowed either. I believe this is because of the dog.

As far as count goes...I'm not really sure. They came and did count while I was visiting. This guy just came around with a clip board and took names. Didn't really interrupt anything. We got there around 11 or 11:30 and stayed till 3 and 3:30. I think 3:30 is the end time. And we visited both days we were there. Make sure you eat first since there is no food or drink other than a water fountain and smoke before you get there since there are no smoke breaks. Once you are in, stay in cuz you have to go through the whole search process if you come out to go to the bathroom. So potty first.

You are assigned a table (very short table that is very uncomfortable) and I sat next to keith. We held hands and kissed a little but not excessively. That's about all there is to it. Hope this helped a little. OH and the woman who pats you down and takes your picture and stuff is really really nice. She doesn't smile alot but if you joke a little with her or talk to her she's great. We had her all 3 days. Visitation and the hearing.

so do they acually let you kiss during the visit? I gotta say these visits seem really bad. plus lance told me not to bring my girls b/c they are strict on kids is that true? I just think it's crappy to have us drive all the way there for me it's like 2 hrs then only get to see him for 2hrs plus have him be misarable which it really sounds like he would be. I really hate how this state works as far as prisons they should copy some of the rules that p.a has I wish we could do something to change all this for our loved ones and ourselves. I know I am just whinning so thanks for listening

You are not allowed to kiss during the visit, only at the beginning and end, like a hello and goodbye kiss. They are very strick on kids. If they aren't old enough to sit still long, you might reconsider. Your visits are four hours, not two. I always stayed for four hours. It's been a lot of hears since I've been there to visit though. Who knows what they are doing now.

Take care Mary, God bless

I am sorry I cant help you or I would. I am coming from Parkersburg, and not even near Kanawha County. I am coming from the opposite way. Hopefully someone will come along to help you. I used to ride with another lady from here in Parkersburg, and it was so much easier to go when we shaired the gas 50/50. I had a big 4x4, so it was good.

I enjoyed the company too! It was nice having someone to drive for me. I supplied the vehicle and half the gas, and she supplied the other half of gas and drove b/c my lisence was suspended at the time. It worked out great!

Good luck!

They earn 2 hours each visiting day they don't get visits....I don't know how to explain it really....like if you go the first weekend then you get to visit 2 hours but if you wait till the 2nd weekend then they earned 2 hours for the saturday before and 2 hours for the sunday before and they can visit with you 4 hours each day...I think that's about as easy as i can explain it....at least that's the way they explained it to me. Call Sandy Sheller or Shelldon...she's awesome and very very nice....she's great at explaining everything and is the IPO there.
