Default Vietnam - 6,000 prisoners to be set free for National Day

Vietnam is expected to release up to 6,000 prisoners under a presidential amnesty to mark National Day on September 2, a police general said in a press conference Wednesday.
President Nguyen Minh Triet said that only four groups of prisoners will be considered for amnesty: (1) those who have “achieved great feats” while in prison, (2) those who are over 70 years old, (3) those who have fatal illnesses including AIDS, and (4) those whose families are in critical financial situations.
