I am at work the other day, when the phone rings. It's for one of our chefs, so I transfer the call to the kitchen.
About a half hour later, that chef pulls me aside. He tells me that the call was from one of his BEST FRIENDS asking him what he knew about Robert! Apparently his best friend is a lieutenant at the prison where Robert is! (how crazy?) Now keep in mind, this chef that got the call was always cool with Robert, but he doesn't know anything except the fact that Robert went back to prison over a year ago. I don't talk about it with him. Also, his best friend who called has no idea that I am Robert's girlfriend, and that I also work at this restaurant. (or that I was the one who answered the phone!) So, the friend asked our chef what he knew of Robert, and once the chef realized who his friend was talking about, he was like "oh, man, Robert? he's cool!"
Apparently, Robert's mom had sent him an electricians book about a week and a half ago. (With all the electrical codes, and info that he is trying to catch up on) The prison accepted the book, but then didn't allow Robert to have it because of "security reasons". (Robert worked for an electrician company before he was locked up. That's what he does)
Robert's mom called the prison after the book was denied to complain because she had called the prison BEFORE she sent the book to make sure he would get it. (It was expensive) The prison assured her that he would get it.
Well, when they denied it, she got mad and called. So apparently they went looking through Robert's paperwork when they came across a letter my step dad had written in favor of Robert's parole. (My step dad is also Robert's boss at the restaurant where we work-Robert's second job that he had) Is this confusing enough for you?
To make a long story short, the lieutenant was going through Robert's paperwork, saw info about our restaurant, and called his best friend, who just happens to be one of our chefs.
So, once our chef said that Robert was a good guy, his friend, the lieutenant said "that's all I needed to know". So we are hoping that he actually gets the book now!!! How cool!!!
But wait! This isn't over!
I was talking to my chef after this all happened, and he asked me what Robert went back to prison for. There was another chef around when I told what had happened to Robert. A little while later, the SECOND chef comes out and asks me if I was talking about my boyfriend just then. I tell him yea, and we get on the subject of drug addiction. He tells me that he is going through the same thing with his girlfriend. We go into his story a little more, when all of a sudden it HITS me. I ask him what his girlfriend's name is. At first he didn't want to tell me, so I asked just for her first name. He tells me.
Lo and behold I am right. His girlfriend is Robert's ex girlfriend. The one he dated right before me. Once that revelation was made, we just stood and stared at each other. We were shocked! We both know what the other is going through.
How insane is THAT? This all happened in one day!
It's great that the MDOC is so willing to look into people's files when it comes to books and etc, so why can't they move that fast all the time?

Crazy times.

lol WOW jeni is it a small world or what? I hope Robert now can get his book..Keep us posted

Well, they called him into the office today. (no, not the principals office, but it might as well be! LOL)
The guy who called him in started looking through all of his paperwork, and I believe that they were going to give the book to him. However, they found the form that the prison had sent to Robert when they first denied the book, and where it tells him to check the box of what he wants them to do with the book, Robert checked "send back to publisher".
Well, what was he supposed to do? He didn't know that he could fight the prison's decision to not give him the book.
So, the guy doesn't think they will beable to get the book back. Sucks.
They did try though, at least we can be thankful about that.
