Default Can't find paper record, only photos...

Greetings.

It has been a long, long time since I have posted here.

We have been outside of photos and oral history been totally unable to find written proof that my granddaughter's greatgrandmother (her father's grandmother) was full blood Cherokee.

My granddaughter who is now 18 is still interested in being recognized by the nation.

Does anyone have any ideas at all about how she can accomplish this?

Please PM me with your advice on this.

Do you need paperwork to be recognized by the people? I have said it before and I will say it again, and will keep saying it til the day I stop breathing...get invoved with the community...the rest will happen, if its truly what you desire...

unless of course, all you really want is the college education, and lousy healthcare IHS provides, or maybe casino money or the tax benefits (which by the way are non existant)

I know that sounds cynical, but unfortunately those are the things too many people are interested. Its not their people or their ancestors they are thinking about.

Default My children's heritage

I too am interested in finding out more about my children's great grandmother. She was full blood Cherokee born in Oklahoma before it became a state. How do I get involved with the community? I am proud of my children's heritage and want to share more of it with them. I don't know how to even start. Any ideas. I don't even have photos of their G-grandma because I was told she believed it would take your soul? No birth certificate because OK wasn't a state when she was born. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me.
