Default Did You All Get To See The Beautiful Pictures & Song In Cherokee?

I posted a thread that showed some very beautiful pictures and a song in Cherokee Amazing Grace I was just curious to know if you all could see it and hear it?

The pictures are just as awesomely beautiful as the song.

Thanks for your post, Its a wonderful thing when people can see more of our culture and hear the beauty.

Walela, Rita Coolidge her sisters recorded Amazing Grace years ago and it has been recorded and sung by many other artists since then. As beautiful as it it, I will always prefer traditional native music' and modern native music relating to native traditions, the ancestors, and the land.

Walela has released at least 3 albums that I know of, and they are all really really good. You'll find some lyrics, here http://www.walela.com/LTwalela.html Some of the songs have more of a traditional feeling to them. But my faVORITE IS NOT THERE... IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE OF wALELA'S MUSIC CLICK THE LINK BLEOW....
http://www.walela.com/wdisc.html

be sure to listen to "I Got no Indian Name," written for all the people who had their heritage and families stolen from them

I need to point out though, that many of those pictures aRE HOLLYWOOD STEREOTYPICAL KAKA. They exploit our culture and cause further damage to the sterotyping issues we have been fighting for 500 years. Just thought I would ADD A LITTLE DIVERSITY TRAINING FOR THOSE THAT ARE INTERESTED...

I searched for the thread and here it is, if anyone else missed it.

Wingy I appreciate your response and letting me know that some wouldn't see what I saw. I just think it is so beautiful and I had no idea some would look at it with a different view. It's nice to know others views and I'm glad you pointed this out for me.

Thanks

I couldn't agree more with you Cyndi and there is always, and I stress always more than one outlook on things. There are so many great musicians of the people out there like John Trudell - his voice is maybe the most important these days, Buffy St. marie, Robbie Robertson, Shelly Morningsong, Kevin Locke, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Mary Youngblood, Native Era, Airo/brule, Irene bedard, Black Lodge Singers, Robert Mirabal just to mention a few and they are all worthwhile listening to.
To loving mike - have you ever seen Trudell the movie? If not I would suggest that you did as it sheds a lot of light about the modern day struggle of all indian people of the western hemisphere.

Aya, I will be looking to see the Trudell movie it sounds informative. I appreciate your guidance regarding this. The last thing I want to be is insensitive. I guess I have been somewhat uninformed. I never meant any disrespect of any kind. I really don't even know who the singer is in the Amazing Grace song I posted, I just think it sounds so beautiful and I really did love the pictures.

Thanks for the insight.

boflipflops 36, yes I explained some of it to my guy and he said it sounds really beautiful, I hope I can show it to him when he gets out. He's also Cherokee from Oklahoma originally. Most of his family is over there.

Peace

and then just search for Trudell the movie and it pops up. It is possible to buy both new and used ones. As I am a ardent supporter of recycling I tend to buy used stuff. You can really do some good bargains there and if you want suggestions for other movies just say the word.

I finally saw and could hear the U tube video; the music is soothing. I like the pics some of which I recognize are from leanin tree cards.

You know LMike, you can learn about some of the native arts and cultures at the Heard Museum located in the valley of the sun. There is always something going on there. A few years ago, Trudell gave a speech and presentation there, maybe next time you can catch him there.

Oh yea Aya, Robert Mirabal is a great performer, I saw his theatrics on pbs once, he moves gracefully with such passion.
