Question Letters: maximum size at DR Alabama

Hello,

I'd like to send a long story to my penpal who is at DR Alabama. Does anybody know if there is a maximum size for letters?

Regards,
Marion

Hi Maari,

I am pretty sure that there would be a limit of how many sheets you can send per letter. Maybe you might be able to send him the story and break it up though so he gets a few pages each time.

Not sure how Alabama compares, but Texas limits the contents of a letter to 50 pages. I don't think size is a real problem--I've sent 10x13" envelopes without difficulty.

No doubt this information is available from the Alabama Department of Corrections (or whatever it is called), quite posibly online.

The rules at Holman are 4 pages printed internet info... but I'm not sure if this counts any typed stuff you send? I'm sending my friend a pantomime script I wrote, a couple of pages at a time with my letter. My letters are sometimes about 13 sides of writing - so I hope they don't have a limit on written pages!

Idaho limits prisoners to five photocopied pages per envelope--but no limit on the number of envelopes they can receive at a time! Silly, silly.

I'm sure the guys in the mail room would get a bit narked if they get 5 envelopes for the same person on the same morning, they might impose their own rules? From what I've read on this forum and heard from other people, they tend to make it up as they go along?

I've done over 20 pages without incident on any number of occasions. We've never had any issue with letter stuff not going through only pictures and internet pages.
