Default Need to know how to delete my threads (URGENT)

Morning, I would like to know if anyone can help me. I notice when you look my name up on goggle you find the threads that I've posted here on PT. Well this pooses a problem because people here at work are always looking up other people on goggle. I dont think anyone would say something to me because everyone is pretty respectful but just the fact that they could be in my business bothers me.. How can i go about getting these threads deleted?

Well when I googled my name it was pages and pages about a reporter with my same name so I guess I'm good.

I'm sorry but we won't be able to delete your threads for that reason. When you google your user name it will, of course, bring up your posts and anyone elses that uses that name any place else on the internet. Your real name should not be linked to the posts and thus not pull PTO threads as a result.

Yeah if I put Csmcgrl23 lots of posts from PTO come up, but if I put in my real name, first and last, Nada comes up!!!

I tried the same thing and only 2getha4eva showed up, which I don't care because it doesn't show my name or email addy..

beeber is that the email addy you use?
& if you used any names in your post just edit them out.

I'm thinking that you created a username similar to your real name or other names commonly used for other purposes. Is that it?

If a person uses their first names in a post that too can be googled not just a username, any keywords will do for searching purposes...

Why can't a mod or administrator delete the account if requested?

Dear PTO administration:

There are ways to prevent the search engines (and there are many) from collecting webpage content and indexing them on the net. I thank God for PTO, and the way I found PTO was that it simply popped up in my browser searching for law information at some point. But my own fault for not putting 2 + 2 together in my desperate searches that this information is out on the net. This is now a big concern.

It is PTO policy to not delete content in the forums. An account can be closed, a name can be changed, if requested, but the old posts will remain. If you google your username, it will show your PTO posts; however, unless you use your real name as your username, that should not be a problem. Unless I come right out and say my name, you don't know it.

At any given time, there are search engine spiders crawling all over PTO looking for keywords and information to put up when someone does a search. I know I found PTO by googling for information, and I am so glad I did. How many people find PTO each day just by looking for information and finding this wonderful support site? How alone would you feel if you never found PTO?

Like any internet forum, you must be careful what you put out there. If you stay anonymous and only post using your username, you should be fine.

Just for laughs, I googled my username - seems I have an Australian greyhouhd and a thoroughbred racehorse for company! It did also bring up 5 - only 5 - of my pto posts. Gotta wonder . . . .

That's interesting!

I Googled my screen name and found that most of the sites were about an adult cartoonist. PTO didn't show up in any of the early pages.

Interesting company I'm keeping.

Thats why you need to be careful about what you post. Even if PTO could delete the thread, there are many websites that track "archive" pages. And they pull up stuff that has been edited out of websites. For example, PTO could take it down, but doing Google searches, it would still come up. Sad but true. Remember everything you put on the net goes far beyond where we want it to.

Wow- I googled my username for grins and found everything from a website for herbal teas and remedies to a former Pittsburg Steelers player and current coach.... no PTO references for the first 5 pages.

You mean you aren't Madeline LeBeau the actress who played Yvonne in Casablanca? Well shucks.

Its not that people don't want others to find help. Just that they want to not be unfairly ridiculed by family and friends when they are seeking out support for those that understand their situation. The reality is, do NOT post personally identifiable information if this is even the slightest of your concerns.

If I do a search for my real name it will bring up all sorts of returns.....virtually all of them for several other people! Oh well....I hope they don't get any of my hate mail....

I cannot help but be reminded of a line from Richard Bach's little book, "Illusions", which is along the lines of: "never become upset if something you say is printed and circulated around the world, even if what is printed is not true". In the age of the Internet, it's worth keeping that in mind--AND learning to not let it bother you.
