New To The Prison Thing

My boyfriend just got sentenced to prison for 15 months on Community Sanctions Violation in regards to Child Support. He is going to CRC but was sentenced over 6 weeks ago and is still sitting in jail. Is this normal? Someone told him he could file for a judicial release before getting to the prison. One of his violations was because he didnt report like they wanted and the other was no job. He was in the process of getting his job back and his employer has sent a letter to the judge telling him he has a job waiting. Is there anything we can do to help him get out before getting to the prison? He needs to be out paying child support and not sitting in prison. He had been paying the full amount for 6 months now but because he was laid off for the winter the judge sentenced him. HELP
