Default sex offender registry laws before 7/06

Does anyone know what the laws were concerning having to register as a sex offender (Georgia) prior to the new laws enacted 7/06? I would like to see exactly what changed. Thanks!

You'll be needing to take a trip to the nearest law library.
You might need the librarian's assitance. If you know the statute and look it up in an annotated reference, there'll be a section that tracks the legislative history of that code.
Then, if you REALLY want to know what was going on, you can check your state's record of legislative history of when the law was a mere legislative proposal. The legislative file might contain all sorts of interesting information relating to unraveling legislative intent at teh time teh law was passed. This kind of search usually means finding the code section's legislative number, and making a trip to your state capital. Your local law librarian can show you books on "how to" do a legislative history search.

You could pay to access Lexus/Nexus, and there are a number of online law libraries.

True enough, but it also takes some training to use Lexis effectively. The books are free, provides teh same info., and are easier to use if the researcher is a novice.
