Default Two Old Friends

Two Old Friends

They sit there close together
as oldsters often do
undoubtedly revealing
the happiest times they knew.
When he was young and handsome
and still had all his hair
And she was quite a beauty
with pretty clothes to wear.
The days they sat at home
and honored guests for tea
served from painted china cups
as fragile as can be.
The special bed they slept in
with pillows soft and white
and blankest trimmed in satin
to cover them all night.
The carriage rides around the park
dressed in their Sunday best
she'd wear a bright blue bonnet
and he a scarlet vest.
Oh, they were pampered darlings
nobody would deny
who'd ever think the time would come
when life would pass them by.
When they would be abandoned
upon the attic floor
with nothing but the memories
of what had gone before.
But that is where I found them
sadly sitting there
Annabelle the ragdoll
and Butch the teddybear.
