Please take action for Gregory Bryant-Bey!

RECOMMENDED ACTION

On November 19, 2008 Gregory Bryant-Bey is scheduled to be executed
by the state of Ohio by lethal injection. This will be the second
execution in Ohio in 5 weeks.

Governor Strickland should NOT CONTINUE EXECUTIONS, rather he should
allow the legislature time to conduct a comprehensive study of
Ohio's broken death penalty system as proposed by Senator Shirly
Smith. All Ohioans agree that our system needs to be transparent,
free of error and in the best interest of Ohioans.

Please write, call and fax messages to Governor Strickland letting
him know that we Ohioans want our legislature to address the known
problems with Ohio's death penalty through a study. Ohio should not
continue executions at a time when too many flaws and errors riddle
the system.

WHAT: Write, call and e-mail the Governor's office today. Let the
Governor know you have serious concerns with:

· Geographic and racial bias;
· Risk of executing the innocent and wrongfully convicted;
· Prosecutorial misconduct through concealed evidence and false
testimony;
· Unknown costs at a time of financial uncertainty;
· Risk of unnecessary pain and suffering.
· Misuse of county resources which should go to victims' families.

Let the governor know you want him to grant a reprieve until a study
can be conducted by the legislature. Make sure you ask for a written
response.

The U.S. Supreme Court late Tuesday rejected an Ohio death row inmate's request to postpone his execution, paving the way for Gregory Bryant-Bey's trip to the death chamber today for the 1992 killing of a Toledo collectibles store owner.The Court unanimously rejected Bryant-Bey's claim that he was denied adequate legal representation at his clemency hearing last month. The court made no comment.

Ohio Killer Executed

Man Dies For 1992 Slaying

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio has executed a man for the 1992 stabbing death of a collectibles store owner in Toledo.

Gregory Bryant-Bey was pronounced dead at 10:41 a.m. Wednesday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

It was Ohio's second execution in as many months following the end of an unofficial national moratorium on executions that began last year while the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed Kentucky's lethal injection procedure.

Bryant-Bey's execution proceeded after the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday denied his request for a 60-day reprieve.

Bryant-Bey wanted more time to present additional information about his case to Gov. Ted Strickland, who denied a clemency.
