Hi all! I am a little new to this but I was wondering if you can call inmates are do they have to call you? My daughter's dad was just transfered to Anamosa, I have been putting off contacting him but I feel I really should. Also, can I get on his visitors list if we have had a restraining order in the past? Oh I know it's a messed up situation lol! I know I would have to fill a form out but I don't want to go through all that if I will be denied in the end because of the past restraining order. Thanks ahead of time!

He will call you. First, your number has to be added to his list: he does that.
If you are his victim then they won't allow visits. He is the one to send you a visitor's form so that you can be added to his visitor's list.
It doesn't sound so messed up to me... this is why we are here.

It all depends on how long ago you had the restraining order. Is it currently in effect? I had past restraining orders against my ex but I still was approved to visit him because I wasn't one of his 'victoms' that he was incarcerated for. He was never jailed for a domestic with me. You should first write him, give him your phone number in the letter so that he can add it. You will also have to send him money to put on his phone account to call you. You can go to the DOC web site to get a paper you can print out with instructions on where to send the money and how to fill out the money order. (No checks or cash) Or you could wait for him to send you that info. Either way, you can't call him, he can only call you. The web site is http://www.doc.state.ia.us/

It can take a little while for your number to get approved, so don't get discouraged if you don't hear from him right away, either. He also has to have money on his phone account to call you, and you can go to a local HyVee and fill out a Money Order to send to his phone account. Go to google and type in "Iowa Department of Corrections" and look on the left hand side of the screen, it should say something about "Inmate Telephone Account" something to that sort. It explains everything you need to do there. Good luck!
