My husband and I are thinking that this is imbeded in another bill but not sure which one. Wish I could everyone more news. Let us just keep it in our prayers.

On May 12th there was a news relases posted on KDOC. By July 1st they will be closing El Dorado North and moving those inmates to other facilities. I'm not to sure how that is going to work though with El ODrado north open they have a capasity of 8099 in the KDOC system, and cureently have 8031 inmates. North unit houses 102...were are they going to put the 68 inmates they dont have room for???? The news realease alos said they have no intention of reopening houseing unit B at Winfield. There are supposed to be more updates coming on what they are planning to do. Hopefull this means a mandatory realease of some inmates. They have to cut 6 million out of there bugets and this is only saaving 1.2 so there are going to be alot of new thins happening. To see it yourself go to KDOC website and click on news, then news releases.

I heard that on top of the six million they were already told to cut, they have to cut another 2.75% for the fiscal year 2010...anyone heard anything about that?

In the second week of May the Kansas Legislature approved an "across the board" cut to all Kansas State Agencies (including KDOC). The cut was narrowly passed @ 2.75%, and that is on top of the other budget cuts made to the FY 2010 budget (concerning the Department of Corrections). If I am not mistaken, the additional 2.75% totals 1.8 million dollars in additional cuts (FY 2010). Hope that helps a little. The department of Corrections is currently working on a budget that will include more cuts. The next legislative session begins June 4th in Kansas. More answers and decisions will be finalized around June 15, 2009.

My hubby is in Ellsworth and i have heard it is 45% good time and it was intially for new comers, but they are going to put it on for all people sentenced since 2006, That what the rumor is around here, we have been talking to a parole officer. So it could all still be rumor.

The fiscal year ends on June 30, 2009. Then July 1, 2009 is when the fiscal year for 2010 starts...something may happen, but something may not happen. There are so many rumors floating around right now...I think we will just have to sit back and wait to see what happens. The legislature met again today...Tomorrow or tonight we should know what they talked about.

The legislature's meeting on June 4th was only a formality; they did not actually discuss anything, but merely held the final adjournment ceremony. The official journal will be published at www.kslegislature.org when it is available; in the meantime, see a newspaper article at http://cjonline.com/news/legislature...fficially_ends

The legislature did not consider any changes to the good time law this year, and they have now left town until next January.

My son is also in Ellsworth, has anyone heard anything yet? I've heard that there will be budget cuts throughout, if they release them early there will be more than just one release date, they will have several...if that rumor is true.

Governor is down with the budget cuts....it appears that the department of corrections is not taking anymore cuts....you can go to the kansas governors home page and see his blog about the budget with the attachment of the budget...bummer....no early release is the way I am reading it.
