DR vs. level assignments

I have a few questions that I hope do not come across as ignorant or uneducated in the workings of the DR facilities:

1. Can DR inmates be assigned levels and therefore have access to work assignments and day room privileges or is that for gen pop only?

2. Does it cary by state/facility?

3. Outside of communicating through the door slot, do DR prisoners have any opportunity for social (albeit not physical) interaction with other inmates?

Thanks in advance for any clarification that anyone can provide. Much of the 'official' documentation seems to contradict many of the accounts of DR "life".
