From County to TDC my hubby was only allowed to wear the shoes they gave him in there. He didn't take any letters but took 3 pictures. You husband won't want to take a lot because they hav eto carry it in their laps.

If he has his wedding ring besure he gets it out of his property before he leaves the county. Once he arrives at TDC they won't let him have it.

When My son left Harris County he mailed all of his letters and pics back to me.
He just started over at his unit. But I still have all of the letters. I did re-send
the pics back to him. Also he can only have one pair of shoes I think. If i'm wrong someone will correct me.

When my son went through Huntsville he had his tennis shoes - he was asked if he wanted to donate to an indigent or send them home. They were new so he wanted them sent home. I guess an indigent was fortunate to receive them because they were never sent.

He was on his way to a SAFP unit

What unit was this? As long as it was in his possession once he hit the intake unit he should have been allowed to keep it. Rings and watches are engraved with their TDCJ # just like hot pots, radios, etc. At the very least they are supposed to issue property papers verifying the ring or watch is theirs.

I'd send my wedding ring home before I let TDC engrave a TDC number into it. That's the first I've heard of that.

My fiance was forced to send his shoes home. They also made him throw most of his letters away. He was allowed to keep some legal paperwork, which he wrote addresses, phone numbers, etc on.

My husband's wedding ring was in his property at county because he couldn't wear it in county. When he left that morning they would not let him get it out of his property. (It was personal, his mother works there, long story). I was just saying to remind him that if his wedding ring is there make sure he takes it with him to TDC. I've been begging and begging and TDC will not let him have it since he arrives without it.

They'll let him take a Bible and a few photos. He should write anything important, like addresses and phone numbers and birthdates inside the Bible. If he wears glasses or contact lenses, he can take those, but if he chooses contact lenses, once they're gone ... they're gone. TDCJ will take it's sweet time fitting him for glasses, and *not* replace the contact lenses. Anything else that he has will be put into property, and he will designate someone to be notified to come and pick it up within 30 days.
