Default Texas death row man claims inmates' numbered days are form of torture

Murderer Danielle Simpson who faces execution on Wednesday speaks about his nine-year term spent locked up in solitary

Danielle Simpson's scrawled note to the appeal court left the judges in no doubt. "If I can't be free – Kill Me.!!" the Texas death row prisoner demanded in a rambling and sometimes incoherent handwritten plea earlier this year. "I'm tired of being in a institution that's unjust, degrading, and corrupted … I'm tired of struggling to survive in a system that's highly injustices. I'm ready to die!!" Simpson underlined "Kill Me" twice.

That article leaves much to think about. I recommend to all who come across this thread that they read it.

Please note that I make no judgement as to the content of the article, just that it is, in my opinion, worthwhile and thought-provoking to read.

Thank you for posting it.

It is a good article about the facility and the mental health of Danielle. The conditions are designed to be cruel. There was no large scale escape attempt. It was 7 men--6 of whom never left the prison grounds. The one person that made it through the fence drowned.

It is sad to read of the conditions and it is true that the facility is not being maintained. Many of the cells leak.

Very sad story all the way around. Clearly he is mentally ill, but is he incompetent? That has yet to be proven. Many of the men in TX suffer SHU syndrome. Scary to think of when you have friends/family there. Thanks for the post, Ness.

Orso TDCJ said.... there are still some 'questions' as to how/why he drowned. But as long as TDCJ has a say, we will never know the truth.

The aritcle is very well weritten and totally unbiased. It also does a very good job of showing just how inhumane TDCJ Death Row is, more European news media need to publish articles like this on a regular basis thereby forcing the US Death Penalty system out into the open and leading to questions by European leaders on a regular basis. This in turn may embarras the US Government to do away with this system of 'justice'.

I hope the above post (or any of my posts) are not seen as anti-US. I am just anti-DP and realise that there are many in the US who are also fighting for the abolition of the DP.

I don't think you are seen as anti-US! I wish the US press would provide articles such as this. Our mainstream media tends to ignore executions and calls for prison reform.

I read the article and it was indeed very sad.no human beings should be deprived like this.but what saddens me most was the actual crime.a dear old lady with a cinder block tied to her feet and cruelly thrown in a river and still at the end of his life this inmate still takes little responsibility but instead chooses to comment about his living conditions. hopefully texas will take notice and improve things.

Default So sad !!!

I have read the above article and it made me feel so so sad !!! The other thing I have been thinking since reading it makes me feel extreamly guilty !!! Shud I be wishing for a stay ?? This man obviously cant take anymore of the torture that he is injuring while being alive !!! That is if he is mentally capable to volunter. This man is proof that the conditions these men on Death Row in Texas especially is not only disgusting and barbaric but CRUEL and WRONG !! This man has made a decision that being put to death is preferable to living !!! That speaks volumes.
